Buyer – Consumer Electronics OR Housewares

We are seeking an experienced Buyer to join our purchasing team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sourcing and purchasing either Consumer Electronics OR Housewares/Home products, along with demonstrated experience managing vendor relationships, negotiating favorable terms, analyzing market trends, and optimizing inventory.

Candidates are not required to have experience in both categories. We are interested in experienced buyers who bring strong category expertise in either Consumer Electronics or Housewares and can apply their purchasing, inventory management, and vendor development skills within our business.

This role requires excellent analytical and negotiation skills, strong business acumen, and a solid understanding of product life cycles, demand forecasting, assortment planning, and inventory management.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Source and purchase products within Consumer Electronics or Housewares, maintaining competitive pricing, product quality, and availability.
• Create, process, and track purchase orders from placement through delivery.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, promotional opportunities, product exclusives, and other programs with manufacturers, distributors, and brand partners.
• Monitor inventory levels to maintain appropriate stock, maximize inventory turns, and minimize excess and aging inventory.
• Analyze product performance, sales trends, sell-through, and key metrics to make informed purchasing decisions.
• Forecast demand and plan future purchases based on historical sales, market conditions, seasonal trends, and product life cycles.
• Monitor market pricing, competitive activity, consumer trends, and emerging products to identify opportunities and mitigate risk.
• Develop and manage product assortments based on customer demand, sales performance, market trends, and company objectives.
• Apply inventory optimization and just-in-time purchasing principles while managing product availability and sell-through performance.
• Identify new products, brands, and purchasing opportunities that can drive incremental sales and enhance the company's product offering.
• Build, develop, and maintain strong relationships with manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, and brand partners.
• Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Finance to ensure purchasing strategies align with inventory and revenue objectives.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records and ensure data integrity within company systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, Merchandising, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of purchasing, buying, or merchandising experience in either Consumer Electronics OR Housewares/Home products.
• Proven experience managing high-volume and high-value purchasing.
• Strong understanding of forecasting, inventory planning, product life cycles, and assortment management.
• Demonstrated experience negotiating with manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, and/or brand partners.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into purchasing decisions.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with Great Plains (Microsoft Dynamics GP) is a plus.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Skills

• Strong knowledge of either the Consumer Electronics or Housewares market, including brands, products, pricing, trends, and competitive dynamics.
• Experience with assortment planning, inventory optimization, demand forecasting, and sell-through management.
• Strong business acumen and data-driven decision-making skills.
• Ability to identify emerging products, brands, and purchasing opportunities.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and grow strategic vendor and brand partnerships.
• Experience sourcing products from domestic and/or international vendors is a plus.
