Position WASTEWATER PLANT ELECTRICAL & INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN I or II – Vacancy in the Sewer Electrical Instrument Division, Public Works Department, Riverside. One (1) vacancy with eligibility list for up to six (6) months. Compensation and COLA Technician I: $80,160.00 – $97,452.00 annually. Technician II: $92,112.00 – $111,936.00 annually. City Council approved 4.5% COLA increase effective July 1, 2027. Employment Conditions Available to work all shifts: day, swing, graveyard, or standby. Location: wastewater treatment plant and collections system. Key Responsibilities Install, maintain, and service electrical components including wire, relays, pull boxes, switchboards, and switches. Maintain, repair, and replace complex and challenging electrical and electronic equipment such as motors, pumps, generators, controllers, switchboards, electronic boards, circuitry, analyzers, samplers, and related components. Perform technical troubleshooting, testing, locating, and repairing defects in electrical and electronic circuits, signals, fiber optics, and electrical gear up to 4160 volts. Use, operate, and apply a variety of electrical diagnostic and test equipment. Troubleshoot, identify, and address problems in electrical and electronic systems, reading and interpreting blueprints, wire diagrams, and schematics, and utilizing a variety of test equipment. Test, clean, repair, rebuild, and calibrate metering equipment; reprogram and maintain microprocessor and instrumentation systems. Maintain and repair complex electrical and electronic operational controls, recording, alarm systems, and variable‑speed pump control equipment. Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot PLCs throughout the plant and collections lift‑station system network; troubleshoot analytical equipment such as residual, D.O., pH, conductivity, and turbidity instruments. Participate and assist with other general plant and facility maintenance activities. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications – Technician I High school graduation or GED; supplemental education or certificate program in electronics preferred. One (1) year experience in electrical and electronic instrumentation system installation, maintenance, and repair involving water or wastewater plant treatment processes. Valid California Class “C” Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. CWEA Wastewater Electrical & Instrumentation Grade I certification within 12 months of hire date. Qualifications – Technician II High school graduation or GED; completed certificate program in electronics. Three (3) years of full‑time experience in complex electrical and instrumentation systems in installation, maintenance, and repair, preferably involving water or wastewater plant treatment processes. Valid California Class “C” Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. CWEA Wastewater Electrical & Instrumentation Grade I certification. Must obtain CWEA Electrical and Instrumentation Technician Grade II certification within 12 months of hire date or promotion. Highly Desirable Qualifications Experience in process controls. Experience in analytical equipment. Physical Demands and Working Conditions Work inside and outside the field with exposure to inclement weather, hazards, chemicals, equipment, construction materials, wastewater, electronic hazards, and fumes.
