Cashier Position
The Cashier is responsible for register transactions involving the sale and/or return of merchandise.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Customer Service: Project a positive representation of Your Local Ace Hardware. Greet customers entering and throughout the store. Thank customers by name, when possible. Project a friendly, outgoing demeanor; work well with customers as well as associates. Clear customer checkout lines quickly and efficiently. Multi-task front desk duties to assist customers, answer telephones, and handle in-house radio as well as other misc. job assignments. Continually build product knowledge base and possess the ability to assist customers with store layout and product location. Assist in pricing, stocking, marking, and bagging of merchandise.
- Register Operations: Follow all cash register transaction procedures. COMPUTER SKILLS ARE A MUST! Responsible for balancing of register drawer. Adhere to any Store Support Center program or promotion that may require implementation at the cash registers. Participate in store and Cashier meetings.
- Front End Appearance and Upkeep: Keep the front end, always including checkout areas and entrance doors neat and clean. Face and dust front end. Assist with keeping impulse counters stocked and faced, rotate fresh merchandise in as seasons change. Ensure fresh ads are always stocked in shopping carts. Ensure forms and supplies are always stocked. Assist with decorating the front end according to the Store Support Center program. Call for cart pickups when necessary. Inform management when merchandise returns need to be put away. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education/Training: High School or GED equivalent. Able to work in a fast-paced environment. Always maintain a professional appearance. Ability to learn about products. Must have reliable transportation. Good math skills. Comfortable with handling cash and giving change. Able to maintain a positive and professional attitude toward customers. At least 12 months basic computer experience. Minimum 1 year experience as a cashier/customer service.
Physical Demands: Standing, walking, lifting (up to 25lbs) and climbing.
