Position Purpose

The Certified Respiratory Therapist is responsible for administering safe and competent respiratory care as ordered by a physician, emphasizing specialty areas such as Emergency, Neonatal, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Critical Care. Key responsibilities include monitoring mechanical ventilation, administering medications, assessing patients, and understanding hemodynamic monitoring and blood work results.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

Position-Specific Responsibilities

• Deliver all Respiratory Care procedures as outlined in the department policy and procedure manual.
• Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all Respiratory Care procedures per department policy.
• Verify physician's orders related to Respiratory Care.
• Provide and receive accurate, complete reports and update patient information to reflect current clinical status.
• Attend department in-services, meetings, patient care rounds, and mandatory hospital meetings.
• Keep the supervisor informed of changes in workload and patient acuity.
• Document all daily services and charges provided to patients in the department's computer system.
• Demonstrate proficient knowledge of Respiratory Care instruments and equipment, troubleshooting issues as necessary.
• Perform effective airway management, including bag/mask ventilation and assisting with intubation.
• Perform arterial blood gas draws and monitor ventilator patients, interpreting related data effectively.
• Participate in the orientation and training of new employees and students.
• Complete required continuous education and compliance training.
• Adhere to personal protective equipment requirements to ensure safety from exposure to hazardous substances.
• Perform patient charge reconciliation and ensure timely submission of time for payroll preparation.
• Utilize appropriate techniques to assess and document patient progress.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum age requirement: 16 years (21 for driving positions).
• Must possess legal eligibility to work in the United States.
• Successful completion of a background check.
• Drug screen and breath alcohol test completion as applicable.
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Graduate from a COARC approved Respiratory Care Program with Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential as per NBRC guidelines.
• BLS certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire).
• NRP certification (must be obtained within 6 months of hire).
• At least one year of experience in respiratory care within a hospital setting is preferred, alongside knowledge in pulmonary and cardiac diagnostics.
