Emergency Medicine Physician

A community-based hospital in Hanover, Pennsylvania is seeking Emergency Medicine physicians for ongoing coverage beginning in October. This opportunity offers flexible block scheduling, travel and lodging coverage, strong nursing support, and the ability to work in a busy community emergency department without residents.

This position is ideal for Emergency Medicine physicians seeking recurring locum coverage with the flexibility to work multiple consecutive shifts while minimizing travel.

Providers will work in a community emergency department with approximately 31,000 annual visits. The facility treats predominantly adult patients and offers access to specialty services including ICU support, general surgery, cardiology, ENT, ophthalmology, and tele-stroke services.

• Evaluate and treat emergency department patients
• Perform medical screening examinations and emergency assessments
• Manage acute and critical care presentations
• Order and interpret diagnostic studies
• Perform emergency procedures as needed
• Coordinate admissions and specialty consultations
• Collaborate with APPs and nursing staff
• Document patient encounters within EPIC

Available shifts include:

• 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
• 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM
• 3:00 PM - 12:00 AM
• 10:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Additional Details:

• 9-hour shifts with overlap for patient handoff
• Coverage needs begin October 2026
• Approximately 2-4 shifts per week available in Q4
• Ongoing need through at least July 2027
• Opportunity for 5 days on / 5 days off scheduling beginning in Q1

• Approximately 31,000 annual visits
• Average 1-2 patient arrivals per hour during overnight shifts
• One physician per shift
• 1-2 APPs available until approximately 4:00 AM
• Fully staffed RN support
• No residency program

Physicians should be comfortable performing:

• Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI)
• Moderate Sedation
• Central Line Placement
• Chest Tube Placement
• Bedside Ultrasound
• Thoracentesis
• Nasotracheal Intubation
• Laceration Repair
• Splinting
• General Emergency Department procedures

• MD or DO
• ABEM or AOBEM Board Certified or Board Eligible
• Active Pennsylvania Medical License
• Active DEA Registration
• ACLS Certification
• Emergency Medicine residency training or qualifying Emergency Medicine experience
• Ability to provide case logs demonstrating recent Emergency Department activity

• ATLS Certification
• PALS Certification
• Prior EPIC experience
• Availability for recurring shift blocks
