Position Summary : Reporting to the Senior Director of Climate Strategies, the Senior Manager, Clean Energy Infrastructure Policy will be a key member of the national Climate Team. The Senior Manager will work in close partnership with state/regional policy staff to foster high-impact state policies that support the organization's clean energy infrastructure goals, specifically, influencing the rapid and responsible onboarding of utility-scale wind and solar projects and the modernized and expanded transmission grid the clean energy transition requires. The Senior Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing robust elements of this policy agenda, identifying opportunities, and helping build collaboration in key states. This role will provide critical policy research, analysis, writing and strategic guidance while adding capacity at the respective state level. The Senior Manager will work closely with the Senior Director to provide guidance and helpful tools to distribute across Audubon's network, including background materials for consultants and other relevant content for internal communications.
This position is classified as hybrid preferred. Hybrid employees are expected to work in an Audubon office every Monday and Tuesday and an additional two days each month of the employee's choosing. Remote work within the United States may be considered only for candidates not within commuting distance of an Audubon office, in accordance with Audubon's "Where We Work" Policy. - Working closely with the Climate Program team, policy, conservation and communications leaders, State Policy Directors, and our grassroots network of chapters and members - support Audubon's clean energy and transmission state policy engagement to advance Audubon's Energy Initiative objectives.
- In coordination with the Senior Director, identify high-impact state policy priorities that align with the organization's federal policy goals; identify and assess policy opportunities (short-, mid-, and long-term) in key states.
- Working in close coordination with policy and government affairs staff across the organization, develop and implement strategies in support of these policy goals and objectives, providing leadership on issues that specifically support the rapid and responsible deployment of clean energy infrastructure.
- Monitor related legislative and regulatory developments via state/regional staff and like-minded partner organizations.
- Raise the profile of Audubon's policy goals and our related expertise among state policy education organizations such as, but not limited to, Climate XChange and the National Council of Environmental Legislators.
- Represent Audubon with key partners (internal, external, local, state, public, private) and coalitions focused on our shared policy goals - including the ability to prepare and deliver written and/or oral testimony before relevant decision-making bodies.
- Monitor or attend regulatory meetings, legislative proceedings, and relevant events within targeted states.
- Serve as a resource for state/regional-level policy teams, providing high-quality issue briefs and other materials necessary to support these policy priorities.
- Work with communications and relevant policy staff around communications and digital organizing that support these policy priorities (providing materials for articles, blogs, newsletters, press releases, and social media posts).
- In partnership with state/regional staff, identify and mobilize key allies and stakeholders to help amplify these policy priorities with decisionmakers.
- As needed, coordinate with state/regional staff to draft and promote action alerts and engagement opportunities for Audubon chapters and members.
- Represent Audubon with national coalitions and partner organizations focused on related state policies, monitoring their developments and contributing to coalition-based legislative and administrative efforts.
- Support a culture of philanthropy and help identify opportunities for funding to support clean energy infrastructure deployment.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the Americas including through joint planning and execution of shared priorities.
- Maintain and foster culture of safety.
- Other job-related duties, as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree and 7+ years demonstrated experience in clean energy or transmission policy issues, or conservation policy development that applies to clean energy projects or related infrastructure on public and private lands. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
- Demonstrated understanding of wildlife conservation issues, including methods for avoiding, minimizing, and mitigating conflicts between clean energy infrastructure development and wildlife.
- Exceptional attention to detail, excellent time management, and organizational skills.
- Experience in project management with a proven track record of successful project completion.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts creatively and with good science.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Outstanding policy analysis and research skills.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills that can be adapted to reach a wide range of individuals and used to build consensus. Ability to synthesize and communicate technical and complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A flexible approach to work, willingness to travel up to 10 times per year for project-related work and trainings and possess a valid driver's license.
