Head of Design

Our client is seeking a Head of Design to set the creative standard across a collective of design, development, and community brands. This person will lead design quality and critique, develop exceptional creative talent, partner with clients, and help win and shape high-profile design engagements. This is a senior creative leadership role for someone with exceptional visual taste who can lead at a strategic level while remaining hands-on when needed. You Will: Set and maintain a high creative standard across brand, digital product, web, editorial, case study, film, and marketing work Lead design critique and provide clear, actionable feedback that elevates both the work and the designers creating it Hire, mentor, and develop exceptional design talent Partner directly with senior clients to present, defend, and shape creative work and brand narratives Lead and support new business efforts, including pitching, scoping, and winning design engagements Provide creative direction on the company's most important and high-profile projects Guide typography, editorial design, case studies, websites, and other brand touchpoints Remain comfortable working hands-on in Figma when projects require it You Have: 10+ years of design experience, including 3+ years leading a team within a studio, agency, or founder-led organization An exceptional portfolio demonstrating strong visual, typographic, and narrative design Deep experience with typography and editorial design Significant client-facing experience presenting and defending creative work with senior stakeholders Experience pitching, scoping, and winning high-level design engagements A track record of hiring, mentoring, and developing strong designers Experience building and leading effective design critique Hands-on proficiency with Figma Strong experience developing compelling case studies and creative narratives Bonus experience in motion, video, photography, publishing, product/interface design, or web design Logistics: Start Date/Duration: Starting ASAP, initial 4-month contract with intention to transition into a permanent leadership role Onsite/Offsite: Fully Remote, candidates may be based anywhere in the US Hourly Pay Rate: $110-$125/Hour To be considered, please email your internal contact or View email address on us.fitly.work with your resume and why you're a fit.
