Informaticist Job Duties

The job duties listed below are for the full-performance VN-III. The Informaticist maintains strong and effective working relationships with staff at all levels across the Department of Veterans Affairs, fostering communication and collaboration across disciplines and organizational levels. The RN demonstrates advanced proficiency in applying nursing and informatics principles, exercising sound judgment, and contributing leadership that supports both clinical and technological advancement. General description of assigned duties includes but is not limited to:

• Practice: Demonstrates expertise in professional practice using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) with improved evidence-based and/or data-driven outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting.
• Expectations:
• Applies advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting.
• Leads and/or supports the use of clinical guidelines, information systems and informatics solutions, and knowledge bases.
• Veteran/Patient Driven Care: Leads initiatives to improve Veteran/patient experience, satisfaction, and/or safety beyond the immediate practice setting.
• Expectations:
• Leads initiatives to improve the Veteran experience, i.e., care coordination, timeliness to resolve issues, negative trends, or environment of care concerns, beyond the immediate practice setting.
• Leads staff to identify, analyze, and address ethical issues that impact patients, caregivers, and staff beyond the immediate practice setting.
• Leadership: Communicates and collaborates as an effective leader of the interprofessional team, at the expert level, with improved evidence-based and/or data-driven outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting.
• Expectations:
• Excels in making appropriate judgements. Demonstrates integrity in the workplace and facilitates formal and informal mentoring opportunities to develop current and future leaders beyond the immediate practice setting.
• Initiates and leads interdisciplinary teams that utilize critical thinking to improve nursing practice beyond the immediate practice setting.
• Professional Development: Enhances knowledge base and practice evaluation, at the expert level, with improved outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting.
• Expectations:
• Accountable for personal and professional career goals with outcomes that have an impact beyond the immediate practice setting.
• Provides leadership at program or service level in communication, education, and leadership to support comprehension of and adaptation to organizational updates; leveraging project management principles and environmental assessment to drive adoption of change.
• Evidence-Based Practice/Research: Leads the identification and integration of evidence-based practice/research with clinical expertise to improve quality of care and resource utilization at the expert level with improved outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting.
• Expectations:
• Demonstrates expertise in evidence-based practice/research resulting in improved outcomes, and managing resources that contribute to efficient, cost-effective care and sharing knowledge beyond the immediate practice setting.
• Readily applies high-level critical thinking skills to problem investigation and resolution.
• Customer Service Requirements: The incumbent meets the needs of the Veteran and, as appropriate, the Veteran's family, caregiver and/or significant other, the Veteran's representative, visitors to VA facilities, all VA staff, and other customers while supporting VA missions.
• Other duties as assigned.

Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards

Work Schedule: M-F 7:30 am - 4:00 pm or as determined by the supervisor.
