Welder/Fabricator

Location: Hudsonville, MI

Job Type: Full-Time

Shift: 1st Shift

Pay: $25.00–$30.00 per hour, based on experience

Custom Fabricator

We are seeking a skilled Custom Fabricator to join our manufacturing team building custom environmental test chambers and specialized testing equipment. This is a hands-on position involving sheet metal fabrication, mechanical assembly, welding, and installation of components to create large, custom-engineered systems.

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, fabrication experience, and the ability to work from detailed drawings and specifications. Experience building machinery, enclosures, HVAC equipment, or other custom equipment is highly valued.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and assemble custom environmental test chambers according to engineering drawings, blueprints, and job specifications.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, fabrication drawings, diagrams, and work instructions.
• Measure, cut, drill, bend, fit, and assemble sheet metal and structural components.
• Perform MIG/TIG welding and tack welding on steel, stainless steel, and aluminum components as required.
• Use hand and power tools including grinders, drills, saws, impacts, riveters, and other fabrication equipment.
• Install insulation, panels, doors, windows, seals, gaskets, hardware, ductwork, and other chamber components.
• Build and install structural frames, supports, brackets, and mounting systems.
• Perform precision fitting and alignment of components to ensure proper chamber operation and sealing.
• Install mechanical components such as fans, motors, pumps, valves, piping, and other equipment as required.
• Assist with installation of electrical components and controls under the direction of electrical/controls personnel.
• Perform layout and measurements to ensure components are positioned accurately.
• Inspect completed assemblies for quality, fit, finish, dimensions, and proper operation.
• Troubleshoot fabrication and assembly issues and make necessary modifications to ensure components meet specifications.
• Work closely with engineers, electricians, welders, machinists, and other technicians to complete custom projects.
• Assist with equipment testing, startup, and final adjustments before shipment or installation.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly maintain tools and fabrication equipment.
• Follow all company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and quality standards.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of fabrication, welding, mechanical assembly, or related manufacturing experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Experience using hand and power tools.
• Ability to measure accurately using tape measures, calipers, squares, levels, and other measuring equipment.
• Welding experience preferred.
• Ability to work with sheet metal and structural materials.
• Comfortable working on custom, one-off, and low-volume projects.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to safely lift and maneuver materials and components.
