Middle Market Underwriter, Sr Underwrites new and renewal Middle‑Market credit requests consisting of working‑capital lines, asset‑based lines, commercial real‑estate loans (owner‑occupied and investor) and equipment financing, generally for moderate‑to‑complex enterprises with revenues >$5 million. Collaborates with Client Solutions Managers and Relationship Managers to present business rationale, risk mitigations and secure credit approval aligned with customer needs. Responsibilities Analyzes applicant business, industry, financial data and supporting credit information; identifies key business and financial risks affecting repayment prospects; and derives conclusions to support credit recommendations. Prepares timely, concise and accurate credit recommendations with limited supervision, including: Quantitative components in the underwriting narrative documenting analysis. Accurate use of risk‑rating scoring models (Dual Risk Rating) for quantitative and qualitative elements. Identification and mitigation of exceptions to policy (TPE, TGE), procedures and compliance regulations. Accurate loan coding consistent with borrowing relationship and terms. Monitors borrower financial performance relative to loan documents, spreads statements, calculates covenants and ensures compliance with approval conditions. Collaborates with CSMs and Relationship Managers to provide insights into customer financial needs, identify expansion opportunities, and advise on loan structures that mitigate risk while complying with market and bank risk tolerances. Participates in customer and prospect calls with CSMs and Relationship Managers as appropriate; may shadow‑manage a portfolio under supervision. Oversees work of other underwriters or credit analysts, reviews credit reports for quality, and uses a standardized QC checklist to provide guidance and training. Demonstrates compliance with all bank regulations, policies, and procedures; keeps up to date on regulation changes; and completes required training. May coach, mentor, or train others and teach courses as a subject‑matter expert. Actively embodies Columbia’s corporate culture and serves as a positive example for peers. May perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications / Requirements 7–10 years of commercial underwriting/credit analysis experience or relevant lending experience (required). Advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills. Advanced credit and credit‑quality skills, including accounting, financial statement spreading and cash‑flow analysis; ability to train and present to small or large audiences. Demonstrated time‑management skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks while delivering work on time. Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups across the company to manage internal and external customer relationships. Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation skills, with a strong interest in training and presenting. Advanced knowledge of credit policies, procedures, practices and documentation. Travel: Occasional. Compensation Pay range: $89,000.00 to $160,000.00. Salary depends on qualifications, experience, geography and other non‑discriminatory factors.
