Purpose

To perform non-professional direct patient care duties under the supervision of nursing personnel and to assist in maintaining a positive physical, social, emotional and spiritual environment for the residents.

Essential Functions

Job Functions

• Assist residents with medications as ordered by their physician(s).
• Documents all functions related to medication management as required by regulation, and by community protocols as defined in the medication training program.
• Obtains, receives, and stores medication(s) from pharmacy.
• Participates in the medication training program and demonstrates competency per the competency checklist.
• Maintains order, cleanliness in medication storage area.
• Assist residents with daily bath, dressing, grooming, dental care, bowel and bladder functions, preparation for activities within the community, reminders of medical appointments, and basic room care.
• Provide functions as directed by supervisor including daily and ongoing records including vital signs, weight and measure residents, and observe and report presence of skin breakdowns; review care plans daily; report changes in resident conditions to supervisor ; and, record all necessary charting entries and report all accidents and incidents.
• Prepare residents for meals and snacks and perform after-meal resident care.
• Maintain resident confidentiality; treat residents with kindness, dignity and respect; know and comply with Residents’ Rights rules; and promptly report all resident complaints, accidents and incidents to supervisor.
• Assist as directed in proper admission, transfer and discharge of residents, inventory resident possessions and report defective equipment to administration.
• Understand and use Universal Precautions and follow established infections control, hazardous communication and other safety rules; ensure cleanliness of assigned residents’ rooms; properly maintain and record resident restraints; and, promptly report all violations of safety and sanitation rules to supervisor.
• Attend and participate in orientation, training, educational activities and staff meeting.
• Any other tasks, assignments, projects or requests as deemed by management.

Qualifications

• High School education preferred.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must read, write, speak and understand English.
• Completion of training program for certification.
• Previous experience with geriatric nursing preferred.
• Knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering basic first aid and resident care.
• Basic understanding of aseptic and sterile techniques.
• Good physical and mental health; neat, clean, well groomed and responsible.
• Patience, tact, enthusiasm and positive attitude toward the elderly.
• Must have upper body strength adequate to bend, lift, shift, move, and/or assist in moving articles of more than twenty-five pounds.
• Must be able to squat, reach, stretch without distress, Must be able to tolerate extended periods walking, standing.

Purpose of the Job:

The Regional Director of Resident Care is the clinical/resident care leader, responsible for the coordination of the overall health and wellness of the residents in a defined number of communities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, training and education, development and implementation of resident care and related policies, monitoring and review of systems, providing clinical support to the regional team, assisting in preparation for regulatory surveys. The position is also responsible for assisting in implementation of clinical programs including, but not limited to: medication management, falls management, clinical indicator tracking, levels of care, retention program and quality management. The Regional Director of Resident Care maintains regular contact with the Vice President of Resident Care to review any clinical and regulatory concerns and issues. This position is responsible for the overall care of assisted living and the memory care program in accordance with resident needs, government regulations, and company policies and procedures in assigned communities. This is accomplished by supporting the community Executive Directors, Directors of Resident Care. This position is also responsible for maintaining excellent service quality, promoting high resident occupancy and meeting financial goals within established budgetary guidelines.

P. All duties, functions and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with Beacon Communities, Inc. policy, procedure and/or best practices as communicated through written instruction, oral guidance, training, and the Beacon Communities, Inc. mission and principles.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Consult and partner with community teams to ensure that quality resident care and services are reviewed at a minimum of every six (6) weeks, or unless the community requires additional visits as established with the Vice President of Resident Care. The Regional Director of Resident Care will:
• Serve as clinical leader for the communities within the regional and for the regional team
• Monitor and manage quality improvement and regulatory compliance
• Complete resident care related training for community managers
• Assist in the development and implementation of resident care policies
• Participate in calls; weekly focus calls, monthly business calls, etc
• Support the sales team in marketing initiatives as needed
• Assist the Executive Directors in the recruitment of department managers, upon request
• Participate in the interview process for the Directors of Resident Care and any other key resident care positions upon request
• Assist with and arrange for the orientation of new Directors of Resident Care
• Assist with and conduct training for the community staff on resident care programs, state regulations and other training as necessary and monitor compliance with Collins Learning training.

Assisted Living/Memory Care

• Ensure that resident medical records, Vitals assessments and care plans are complete and in compliance with Beacon policies and best practices
• Audit accuracy of assessments and service plans/care plans
• Audit medication management systems (eMARs)
• Audit resident care programs (clinical indicators, falls, wounds, etc.)
• Audit follow up of incident reports for residents and others in the community
• Documentation of third-party service providers (Hospice, Home Health, therapy, etc.)
• Pharmacy consultant reports
• Resident council minutes
• Infection control practices
• Review all pertinent resident care communication tools, such as 24-hour reports
