What Does A Lifeguard Do?
- Maintain Constant Surveillance Of Water And Pool Deck Areas By 10-10 Scanning
- Assist Swimmers In Distress
- Provide Emergency Medical Assistance As Trained To Any Person On The YMCA Premise As Necessary
- Provide Support To Swim Lessons And Aquatic Programs Instructors
- Take And Record Chemical Readings Set Forth By Branch
- Know And Operate Pool Equipment As Required (I.e. Lane Lines, Chair Lift)
- Enforce And Educate Members About Aquatic Rules And Procedures Set Forth By Branch
- Provides Exceptional Customer Service And Fosters Connections With Members
- Participating And Satisfactory Completion Of In-Service Trainings

Qualifications
- Must Be At Least 16 Years Old
- Ability To Obtain A Criminal Record Clearance, If Over 18 Years Of Age
- High School Diploma Or Equivalent; Valid Work Permit Required If A Minor
- Previous Work Experience Preferred
- Must Be Able To Complete YMCA Swim Test And Pass Entry Written Test
- Possess A Basic-Level Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) Certification From One Of The Following Organizations: Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard, YMCA, Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program, Boy Scouts Of America (BSA), StarGuard ELITE, United States Lifesaving Association (USLA). Ability To Transition To Red Cross Certification Within 90 Days
- Complete Required Certifications Within 60 Days Of Hire
- Complete All Required Branch And Position Specific Trainings As Required Within Two Weeks Of Hire
