Defense Systems Group (DSG) and Next Gen OPIR Polar Program DSG provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, technology development, warfighter capability enablers, systems integration, defense industrial base, and threat reduction to shape current and future space missions across the national security space enterprise. DSG supports major customers including the U.S. Space Force, U.S. Space Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, while also providing broad technical support across the national space enterprise. The Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) receives DSG’s technical expertise for the conception, design, acquisition, launch and operations of satellite, launch vehicle, ground control, and range systems. The Next Gen OPIR Polar program is building and fielding next-generation OPIR Space Vehicles for Polar orbits. The mission is to deliver end-to-end, resilient missile warning systems for the northern hemisphere that outpace threats. Position Our primary customer is the U.S. Space Force, and this role is prime contractor focused with a fast-paced tempo. We are seeking a driven, motivated Next Gen OPIR Polar Multidisciplinary Engineer to perform technical support in a dynamic team environment. The selected candidate will work full-time on-site at our El Segundo, CA facility and support flight 2 HWCI builds at the Prime Contractor facility in Redondo Beach, CA. What You’ll Be Doing Provide government and prime contractor technical assistance and assessments on the flight 2 builds of the Space Vehicles hardware Support fabrication and mechanical assembly of the flight 2 build Execute independent assessments of prime contractor activities and provide guidance to USSF personnel on space vehicle electronics, including Red Flag Reports; lead and coordinate ETG SME activities on FRBs and other nonconformances Impact the mission by engaging in strategic planning, collaborating with USSF, government contractors, and Aerospace SMEs to address challenges and deliver integrated operational capabilities What You Need to Be Successful Minimum Requirements for Project Engineer – Multidisciplinary Engineering: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related discipline 8+ years of experience evaluating spacecraft sub-systems, MRB/FRB root cause investigations, or spacecraft bus in a space environment Hands-on experience with analysis of root cause and corrective actions, ETG labs and capabilities, major space vehicle subsystems, and microelectronics Familiarity with production challenges and risk management Willing to travel approximately 10% Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance (U.S. citizenship required) How You Can Stand Out It would be impressive if you have one or more of these: Master’s degree or higher in physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related discipline Experience in spacecraft systems and FRB/MRB diagnostics Experience with subcontractor challenges, risk management, and participation in space vehicle build processes History supporting the USSF customer Ability to collaborate across government and contractor teams Track record advising US Government customers at critical decision milestones (technical and/or schedule) including risk assessments Participation in and leadership of ETG subsystem teams Current Secret level clearance, SCI clearance preferred Compensation and Benefits We offer a competitive compensation package tied to performance. The salary range for this role is $117,300.00 – $175,900.00 per year, with pay determined by education, experience, knowledge and skills.
