Job Summary The groundskeeper II maintains campus landscapes to ensure a clean,healthy, and visually appealing environment. Responsibilitiesinclude mowing, pruning, planting, and seasonal preparation ofvegetation, as well as treating areas for pests and weeds whileadhering to safety standards. This role involves operating andmaintaining specialized equipment like tractors, loaders, and lifttrucks and performing minor repairs as needed. Additionally, thegroundskeeper II may instruct other staff on the proper use ofpesticides and materials to ensure consistent quality across campusgrounds. Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibility that will be required of positions given this title. Job Responsibilities and Execution Manages and maintains campus vegetation by mowing; pruning, trimming, and staking trees and shrubs; and detailing flowerbedsand other landscape elements Maintains the cleanliness of campus grounds by removing trash,debris, and other refuse Prepares grounds for seasonal climate changes by pruningtrees/bushes and distributing fertilizer Adheres to strict safety standards and practices Treats vegetation for insects and removes weeds usingpesticides, fertilizers, and other chemicals Excavates holes and trenches for installation of lights,sprinklers, and other equipment Removes debris from mulched areas and flowerbeds Plants seeds, bulbs, flowers, shrubs, trees, and othervegetation in designated areas Repairs and adjusts tools, machinery, and equipment Operates various equipment including skid steer loaders, tractors, backhoes, front‑end loaders, dump trucks, and aerial lifttrucks Acquires and stores pesticide solutions; mixes or dilutesspecified chemicals or materials according to directions andapplies them at the recommended rate Instructs groundskeepers, as required, in applying sprays,dusts, and other materials Service Excellence Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassadorof the Q2 culture of service excellence Models, supports, and holds others accountable to the University’s values Responds to needs of customers in a timely and courteouslymanner Anticipates Anticipates customer needs and respondaccordingly Responds to customers Establishes and maintains appropriate and effectiverelationships with customers Communication, Teamwork, and Collaboration Assists with special events, including setup, event security,and cleanup Builds and maintains constructive work relationship withco-workers, supervisors and customers Cooperates with others toward achievement of common goals Job may require other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver’s license Prior experience operating equipment including skid steer loaders, tractors, backhoes, front‑end loaders, dump trucks, and aerial lift trucks Demonstrated experience in the grounds industry, includingconsiderable knowledge of common practices and related tools, equipment, and materials Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals fromdiverse communities and cultures Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to execute multiple tasks according tospecifications Strong professional integrity and ability to maintain strictconfidentiality Ability to use good judgment and think critically Work Environment Environmental or atmospheric conditionscommonly associated with the performance of this job’s functions.
