Job Overview

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, The Transportation Supervisor will be responsible for supervising the activities related to delivery and backhauls. This includes training and supervising transportation department associates, compliance with government regulations and promoting safety and security of the transportation department. Also Supervises journey level maintenance and mechanic staff and oversees maintenance and repair activities for a mixed fleet of buses, vehicles and heavy equipment. Ensure that buses, vehicles and heavy equipment are properly repaired, serviced, cleaned and prepared for service.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties:

• Supervise and manage work schedules for all personnel.
• Delegates work to direct union reports.
• Advise Operations Manager of major problems and recommended corrective action.
• Ensure procedures are being followed to the highest level of quality standards.
• Interpret, apply, and educate daily work, regulations, and procedures.
• Identify and evaluate staffing needs in support of existing, projected, and targeted business opportunities.
• Consult and advise management personnel of transportation projects and priorities.
• Support other department staff as needed.
• Adhere to the established Chugach safety and personnel policies and standard operating procedures.
• Resolve customer complaints and inquiries in accordance with established procedures and guidelines; for those issues that cannot be resolved, direct customer to appropriate personnel.
• Facilitate the collection and dissemination of employee leave requests, sign in/out sheets, timesheets and other administrative functions.
• Provides data for key performance indicators (KPI) with metrics to monitor and improve departmental performance.
• Coordinate all efforts in conjunction with Operations Manager and Transportation Specialist.
• Plans, schedules and implements all Transportation activities including but not limited to: scheduling of daily route and or customer chauffer requirements.
• Attend weekly departmental meetings.
• Directs, coordinates, and plans daily work schedule.
• Meets with representatives of customer field activities, managers, assistant supervisors, and staff concerning policies and procedures to attain maximum supply control and to discuss and resolve departmental issues.
• Meets with Lead(s) to ensure work activities are coordinated.
• Ensure all supplies, materials, and equipment are maintained and stored as outlined in customer and company processes and procedures.
• Responsible for processes of department time sheets.
• Ensures all work is performed in a safe and secure environment.
• Occasionally may be required to operate Government or company owned motor vehicle.

• Overseas and supervises repair and maintenance activities during assigned shifts, including the detailed work assignments of Mechanics, operating buses, and other assigned staff performing work on-site.
• Supervises and assists employees engaged in the daily repair and service of buses, vehicles and related equipment. Assists mechanics with diagnosing complex problems with air-conditioning, exhaust and electrical systems; alternative fueling systems; hybrid and electric drive systems; ignition, emission and hydraulic systems; and related computer-controlled equipment.
• Assists in training and instructing employees on functions related to their job assignment. Supervises, coaches and motivates employees to perform their duties efficiently and safely and improve their job performance and knowledge. Documents employees conduct and performance to ensure that appropriate coaching is applied.
• Analyzes and sets workload priorities and arranges workforce assignments and work shift priorities. Utilizes the Equipment Asset List.
• Manage (EAM) fleet management system to generate work orders and monitor work in progress.
• Approves PR's for materials and supplies, keeps accurate records, investigates accidents and accident damages. Prepares detailed repair cost estimates and performs special quality control inspections on a regular basis.
• Follows and enforces applicable federal, state, local and department corporate rules, regulations and procedures including applicable safety rules and regulations. Ensures that employees are trained in workplace safety practices involving tools, chemicals and equipment, and enforces safety practices and procedures.
• Coordinates unfinished work activities with other shift personnel and dispatchers.
• Confers with and makes recommendations to the Operations Manager on problems, equipment, training, or other pertinent matters that will improve the efficiency and/or safety of the maintenance operation.
• Prepares reports using applicable software applications and maintains a variety of records.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:

• High school graduate or equivalent GED.
• Five (5) Years of experience in a Transportation/mobile environment.
• Two (2) years of experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity, i.e. corrective actions, coaching/mentoring, etc.

• Graduation from high school or the equivalent. Successful completion of 30 semester units or the equivalent of college level or vocational school coursework in automotive technology and/or heavy-duty equipment repair or a closely related field.
• Fleet maintenance and repair. Recent work experience with alternative fuel-powered vehicles and equipment (e.g. hybrid, electric, Compressed Natural Gas) is required. At least two years of the recent, paid work experience must have included leading and coordinating the work of others
• Additional recent, related work experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis (successful completion of 30 semester units or the equivalent is equal to one year of work experience).

• Ability to pass pre-hire background and drug screen.
• Possess a valid state driver's license with a driving record in good standing.
• Possess an OSHA 30 card or have the ability to get one within the first 90 days of employment
• Heavy duty transit bus repair and troubleshooting procedures.
• Preventive maintenance practices and methods.
• Mechanical parts and materials used in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment and vehicles.
• Federal, state and local transportation regulations.
• Occupational health, safety and environmental regulations that apply to heavy duty vehicle repair shops.
• Recordkeeping and scheduling methods.
• Basic mathematics.
• Principles and practices of leading and coordinating the work of others.
• Basic supervisory techniques.
• Effective training and evaluation techniques.
• Effective customer service techniques.

Working Conditions:

• Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions.
• Work hours are subject to change, with overtime work as needed.
• Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, common colds, influenza, dust odors and elevated noise levels.
• Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard and soft-carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces.
