JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about food and hospitality, is eager to lead teams and work hard, and brings positive energy to the workplace. 

The Shift Manager is responsible for supporting managers and staff to oversee cafe service and FOH operations.

Working under the general supervision of the FOH management team, the Shift Manager will:

• Manage service operations and supervise staff, including scheduling breaks, maintaining cafe cleanliness and operations, handling guest issues, and delegating tasks. Solve problems and assist as needed.
• Ensure adherence to standards while working to achieve operational excellence.
• Ensure the facility is clean, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing at all times.
• Prioritize safety, cleanliness, and sanitation in all facets of production and operation.
• Assume opening and closing duties of the bakery/cafe.
• Assume bar shifts as needed.
• Assist managers in training staff on food, beverage, service, hospitality, and other applicable topics.
• Alert and assist the FOH management team of no-shows, tardiness, and relevant performance issues, documentation, and follow-up.
• Check daily inventory of applicable products.
• Be a resource for team members for questions related to products, standards, and systems.
• Build relationships with regular and interested guests.
• Keep storage areas clean and organized.
• Respond to guest inquiries and complaints during service.
• Meet with management team as needed for consultation, coordination, and brainstorming.
• Help maintain a culture that ensures that guest needs are met at every point of their Sofra experience.
• Provide leadership, act as a role model of appropriate behavior in the workplace, enforce company policy and procedures, and uphold quality standards. 
• Maintain company culture to champion vision, values, and uphold staff morale.

Beverage (20%) working closely with the co-Shift Manager and Cambridge Cafe Manager:

• Assist with training new baristas.
• Ensure quality and consistency of all beverage prep and ingredients including but not limited to proper rotation, appearance, and taste. 
• Assist with ordering, inventory, and vendor relationships for all beverages.
• Assist with beverage equipment maintenance and repair.
• Assist with leading communication and implementation for all beverage menu offerings.

This is a non-exempt position. The Shift Manager is expected to accomplish the responsibilities outlined in this job description in approximately 22 hours/week.

Qualified candidates will have – 

• At least 1-2 years of experience working in a cafe or similar setting 
• Availability to work weekends and holidays
• Excellent attendance and punctuality
• Strong barista experience 
• A desire to learn and teach
• Strong attention to detail and a positive attitude
• Courtesy and respect towards customers and coworkers 
• Genuine passion about hospitality and the overall guest experience
• Clean and organized working habits 
• Ability to work as a team and take direction from multiple managers
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
• Preferred knowledge of Toast POS

COMPENSATION

• $25/hour, 22 hours/week
• 1 week paid vacation time per year after 6 months in the position
