Position Summary The Manager, Equipment is responsible for leading equipment engineering and maintenance activities within an assigned manufacturing area to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production equipment and systems. This position oversees equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment improvements, technical projects, and continuous improvement to minimize downtime and support production objectives. The Manager, Equipment leads Equipment Engineers, Technicians, and other assigned team members and partners with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Safety, Engineering, vendors, and global teams to resolve complex equipment issues, improve equipment performance, and support safe and reliable manufacturing operations. Essential Responsibilities Manage equipment engineering and maintenance activities to support safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing operations. Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs for assigned production equipment and ensure maintenance activities are completed effectively and on schedule. Monitor equipment performance, reliability, and downtime to identify recurring issues, operational risks, and improvement opportunities. Lead the resolution of complex equipment failures and technical issues to minimize unplanned downtime and production disruption. Analyze equipment performance and maintenance data to identify root causes and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions. Lead equipment improvement, modification, reliability, and optimization projects to improve safety, quality, productivity, maintainability, and equipment performance. Establish and monitor equipment performance indicators and use data to prioritize maintenance and improvement activities. Provide technical oversight and support for critical equipment engineering, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities. Coordinate equipment activities with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Safety, Engineering, and other departments to support operational priorities. Support equipment installation, commissioning, modification, validation, and production readiness activities as required. Manage vendor and contractor relationships, including technical coordination, service quality, cost, scheduling, and performance. Communicate with global headquarters and other technical teams regarding equipment projects, technical issues, continuous improvement, problem-solving, and planning. Ensure equipment documentation, maintenance records, technical specifications, and other required records are accurate and maintained in accordance with applicable quality and document-control requirements. Ensure equipment activities comply with applicable safety requirements, including electrical safety, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Company safety programs. Support internal, customer, regulatory, and other applicable audits related to equipment, maintenance, safety, and documentation. Conduct required Layered Process Audits (LPAs) and ensure identified gaps are appropriately addressed. Support department budgeting, equipment investment planning, purchasing, and resource planning as required. Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards: Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container Perform other duties as assigned Leadership Responsibilities Lead, coach, mentor, and develop Equipment Engineers, Technicians, and other assigned team members through performance management, goal setting, and professional development. Establish clear expectations and accountability for safety, equipment reliability, maintenance execution, technical performance, documentation, and workplace conduct. Manage workforce planning, staffing, hiring, onboarding, retention, performance evaluation, promotion, corrective action, and other employee-related activities in partnership with Human Resources. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports to review performance, development, technical priorities, and employee concerns. Develop technical and leadership capabilities within the Equipment team to strengthen department competency and support succession planning. Set department and team goals aligned with production and organizational objectives and monitor progress against established targets. Delegate responsibilities and establish work priorities based on equipment conditions, production requirements, technical needs, and business priorities. Ensure effective communication and coordination across shifts to support equipment reliability and timely resolution of technical issues. Promote consistent application of Company policies, procedures, safety requirements, technical standards, and work practices. Address employee relations matters, workplace concerns, and performance issues promptly and appropriately in partnership with Human Resources. Promote collaboration between Equipment, Production, Maintenance, Quality, Safety, and other cross-functional teams. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience. 7+ years of progressive experience in equipment engineering, maintenance engineering, manufacturing engineering, automation, or a related technical function. 3–6+ years of leadership or management experience within equipment engineering, maintenance, manufacturing, or a related technical environment. Experience supporting large-scale, high-volume, and/or highly automated manufacturing operations. Demonstrated experience with production equipment troubleshooting, reliability improvement, preventive maintenance, and equipment optimization. Experience leading equipment improvement, technical, or continuous improvement projects. Working knowledge of industrial safety requirements and safe equipment maintenance practices. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field. Experience within battery, automotive, advanced manufacturing, or another highly automated manufacturing environment. Experience with automated, robotic, PLC-controlled, or other advanced manufacturing equipment. Knowledge of NFPA 70E, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), OSHA requirements, and industrial electrical safety practices. Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance programs and equipment reliability methodologies. Experience working with vendors, contractors, and equipment manufacturers. Experience working with global engineering or manufacturing teams. Knowledge of applicable automotive quality management systems and document-control requirements. Experience implementing 5S, Lean manufacturing, or other continuous improvement methodologies. Regularly required to work within production and equipment areas to evaluate equipment performance, troubleshoot issues, support projects, and engage with team members. May be exposed to noise, moving mechanical equipment, automated machinery, electrical systems, manufacturing materials, temperature variations, and other conditions typical of an industrial manufacturing environment. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with applicable safety requirements. Requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods while working throughout production and equipment areas. May require bending, reaching, climbing stairs, and accessing equipment and manufacturing areas. Must be able to work flexible hours and support days, nights, weekends, holidays, or additional hours as required by equipment, production, and business needs.
