Job Description
PCU - Cardiac Stepdown

Schedule

Nights, with shift options for 36 or 48 hours. Weekend requirement as needed; rotating.

Assignment Details

Unit type: Cardiac stepdown/PCU with a typical daily census of 38 patients. Patient population includes predominantly adults and geriatrics.

Requirements

• 2 years PCU/cardiac stepdown experience preferred; will consider 1+ year experience.
• Cardiovascular experience required.
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS; NIHSS and CPI preferred.
• Charting system: Epic (required).
• Key clinical skills: Cardiac telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation, management of cardiac drips, central line/PICC/peripheral IV management, non-invasive and high-flow oxygen therapy, chest tube care, feeding tube care, blood product administration, and familiarity with heparin and IV insulin protocols.

Responsibilities

• Provide care for patients with cardiac conditions, including those post-cardiac procedures.
• Monitor vital signs and telemetry, assessing any changes in condition.
• Administer medications and manage IV drips as prescribed.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Educate patients and families on post-procedural care and lifestyle modifications.

Compliance / Notes

Orientation is 24 hours, and modules will be completed onsite. A New Mexico/Compact license is required before starting. Previous staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler.
