Attorney

A well-established Michigan law firm is seeking a Commercial Litigation Attorney to join its litigation practice group in Southfield. This role will focus on representing businesses, insurers, and corporate clients in a wide range of commercial disputes. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and advocate who is comfortable managing cases independently while working closely with partners on complex litigation matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Represent corporate and commercial clients in state and federal court litigation
• Handle all aspects of litigation from case inception through resolution, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation, arbitration, and trial preparation
• Draft complaints, answers, dispositive motions, briefs, discovery requests/responses, and settlement agreements
• Conduct and defend depositions, including experts and key fact witnesses
• Appear regularly in court for motion hearings and status conferences
• Develop litigation strategy in collaboration with partners and clients
• Manage case files, deadlines, and litigation budgets where applicable
• Participate in settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution
• Assist with client counseling on litigation risk and pre-suit matters

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
• Active license to practice law in Michigan (in good standing)
• 3–7+ years of commercial litigation experience in a law firm setting preferred
• Strong experience with motion practice, discovery, and depositions
• Familiarity with Michigan state court and/or federal court litigation procedures
• Excellent legal writing, research, and oral advocacy skills
• Ability to manage a litigation docket with appropriate supervision or independently depending on seniority

Preferred Experience

• Experience representing corporate, insurance, or business clients
• Trial experience or significant courtroom exposure strongly preferred for mid-level roles
• Background in contract disputes, business torts, construction litigation, or employment-related commercial matters
• Experience working in a billable-hour environment
