Assistant or Associate Specialist – Goldberg Lab University of California, San Francisco Position Description

• Responsible for mammalian cell culture and associated techniques such as CRISPR/Cas9 gene expression control, pharmacological treatments, transfection, cloning, and cell passaging.
• Perform molecular and biochemical analyses, including RT‑PCR, western blot, mass spectrometry (run by collaborator), and transcriptomics, and prepare samples for these analyses.
• Manage multiple cell lines concurrently, collaborate with lab members and Dr. Goldberg, plan experiments, and develop independence throughout the appointment.
• Receive training in mouse handling and in vivo techniques, genotyping, and colony management.
• Present at lab meetings with updates on experimental progress, data figures, interpretation, and future plans.
• Contribute to general lab duties: assisting other members, cleaning, monitoring supplies, ordering, and maintaining lab notebooks and data storage per lab rules.

Required Qualifications Experience with cell culture and molecular biology approaches (CRISPR, qPCR, plasmid design/construction). Assistant Specialist: Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in a biological science discipline with ≥ three years of hands‑on basic science research experience. Associate Specialist: Master’s degree (or equivalent) or five to ten years of relevant experience. Willingness to work with mice. Experience with data analysis software. Meet required qualifications at time of appointment. CV must state qualifications (or indicate pending). Preferred Qualifications MS degree in a biological sciences discipline that required hands‑on basic science research. Highly organized, experienced in giving presentations, collaborative with lab members, genome engineering software, microscopy, western blot, mass spectrometry sample preparation.
