Field Service Technician (Machine Tools)

Division: Machine Tool DivisionLocation: West & East (preferred) or MidwestSupervisor: Service ManagerFT/PT: Full-Time, 45 hours/weekFLSA Status: Non-Exempt**Position Overview**Shibaura Machine Company of America, an Illinois corporation since 1975 and a wholly owned subsidiary of Shibaura Machine Company Ltd., is a leading manufacturer of high‑quality industrial machinery, including CNC machine tools.The Field Service Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Shibaura machine tools at customer sites. This role requires hands‑on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting expertise, along with a solid understanding of CNC controls and electro‑mechanical systems. The ideal candidate is self‑motivated, customer‑focused, and capable of working independently while delivering high‑quality service and maximizing customer satisfaction.**Key Responsibilities**Travel to customer sites to diagnose and resolve machine tool issues, including troubleshooting, repairs, modifications, programming support, and customer trainingInstall and commission machine tools, including alignment, calibration, and system integrationPerform preventive maintenance and recommend improvements to enhance machine reliability and service lifeRespond rapidly to urgent service calls and critical machine failures to minimize customer downtimeProvide telephone and remote technical support when not on-siteComplete detailed service reports, diagnostics documentation, and provide technical feedback to engineering teamsFollow all company, customer, and regulatory safety requirementsAny other duties and tasks, consistent with your abilities, which may be assigned.**Minimum Qualifications**Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in a technical field preferred, or 3–5 years of equivalent hands‑on experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting of CNC machine toolsStrong customer service skills with the ability to build and maintain effective internal and external working relationshipsAbility to communicate clearly and professionally with customers and colleagues at all organizational levelsDemonstrated ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and PLC ladder diagramsBasic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and OutlookAbility to adapt to changing work environments, manage competing demands and able to deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events.Willingness and ability to travel up to 90% within a multi‑state region, by car or airValid, unrestricted driver’s license with a clean driving recordValid passport or ability to obtain one for international travelAbility to cover approved travel expenses in accordance with company reimbursement policies**Physical & Work Requirements**Ability to move freely throughout customer and company facilitiesAbility to focus, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks simultaneouslyAbility to bend, twist, stoop, reach, and lift materials up to 50 lbs routinely and up to 70 lbs as requiredFrequent use of hands and arms for fine motor tasks and tool operationVisual capabilities including close, distance, peripheral, and depth perceptionAbility to remain professional, composed, and effective under stressful conditionsYou should be proficient in:Dovetail CNCHeavy Equipment RepairCNC ToolingMechanical Troubleshooting SkillsCNC ProgrammingCNC Machine RepairCNC Machine InstallationCommercial Electrical ExpertiseElectrical TroubleshootingElectrical RepairMachine Safety InspectionsTroubleshooting CNC MachinesMachines & technologies you'll use:Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) (Fanuc, Siemens) #J-18808-Ljbffr Torrey Holistics
