Utility Maintenance Technician

Job Summary

Incumbents in this position are responsible for mechanical and electrical operations and repairs of sewer pump stations, facilities and CFPUA buildings. This position is assigned to pay grade G14.

Essential Job Functions

Maintains and repairs various pumps, motors, and electrical systems at lift stations.

Troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues using voltmeters and amp meters.

Preventative maintenance and repair of bar screens and grinders.

Wet well cleaning: Removing grease, rags, and debris from pumps and floats.

Conduct safety inspections, maintain lubricants and fluid levels, and keep work areas clean.

Perform preventative maintenance on emergency diesel generators and bypass pumps.

Confined space entry: Working in tight, restricted underground areas like manholes and valve vaults using gas/air monitors and tripods.

Identifies and corrects work hazards while ensuring compliance with established safety policies.

Keeps records of all work performed in Maximo.

Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment, assists in supply inventory, and operates job related tools.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Scheduled on call availability required.

In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements

High school diploma or GED.

Six (6) months of work experience in a mechanic role or any related work field. Utility experience preferred.

NC Grade 1 Collections certification or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment is required.

NC Grade "2" Collections certificate is preferred.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid State of North Carolina driver's license.

This position will be placed on an On-Call rotation that requires a response within 30 minutes of notification.
