Registered Nurse Oncology

Job Summary:


The Registered Nurse in the Oncology Clinic provides skilled nursing care to patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other infusion treatments in an outpatient setting. This role involves patient assessment, medication administration, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective treatment delivery. The nurse will manage oncology and hematology patients, as well as non-oncology infusion cases, ensuring high-quality care and patient safety.

Responsibilities:

• Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other infusion treatments to oncology and hematology patients.
• Perform patient assessments and monitor for adverse reactions during and after infusions.
• Provide education and support to patients and families regarding treatment plans and side effect management.
• Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
• Maintain accurate documentation of treatments, patient responses, and clinical observations.
• Perform subcutaneous injections and therapeutic phlebotomy as required.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulatory requirements related to chemotherapy administration.
• Manage non-oncology infusion patients including rheumatology, GI, neurology, and pulmonology cases.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
• Chemotherapy Certification (ONS/ONCC) required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Experience in infusion center or outpatient oncology nursing.
• Skills in clinical assessment, medication administration, and patient education.
• Experience with subcutaneous injections and therapeutic phlebotomy.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) credential.
• Experience with inpatient oncology nursing considered.
• Strong interdisciplinary team collaboration and communication skills.

Special Considerations:

• Work primarily with oncology and hematology patients; approximately 85% hem/oncology and 15% non-oncology infusions.
• No weekend or holiday shifts required.
• Shifts may extend until the last patient is seen; start times typically between 7:15 AM and 7:45 AM.

Scheduling:

• Monday through Friday, five 8-hour day shifts.
• Standard shift hours approximately 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with flexibility based on patient load.
