Public Health Nurse (Men's Shelter)

Pay Schedule III, Grade 18N, Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week. Vacancies available in the Department of Health and Human Services, Bureau of Clinical Services. Responsibilities Under general supervision, plans, coordinates, and provides professional public health nursing services to the men residing in the Baltimore County Westside Men’s Shelter. Provides nursing care, health assessments, health guidance, health education, and referral services to individuals, families, groups, and institutions. Administers prescribed medical treatments and emergency care to patients. Provides health screening education and counseling in disease prevention, health maintenance, and mental health. Participates in the instruction, orientation, and oversight of new public health nurses, nursing assistants, volunteers, and others. Prepares and maintains nursing records and reports. Other duties include performing related tasks as required. Required Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in nursing or graduation from an accredited diploma school of nursing plus at least one year of professional nursing experience, or graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree in nursing plus at least two years of professional nursing experience. Licenses and Certificates Possession of a valid license to practice as a professional registered nurse issued by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses is required at the time of appointment. A valid noncommercial, class C Maryland driver’s license is also required. Examination Procedure Qualified applicants will receive a rating based on an evaluation of their training and experience as submitted on their application and supplemental questionnaire. Physical and Environmental Conditions The role may require walking, standing, lifting, operating medical equipment, and traveling throughout the County. Duties may expose incumbents to various bio-medical hazards.
