Wildlife Technician
This position serves within CPW's Terrestrial Section as a wildlife technician coordinating and managing data collection in the Middle Park Area for the elk and deer survival monitoring areas. This position will make decisions necessary at the operational level to carry out field duties associated with the established elk and deer monitoring studies within Middle Park. This position will work as a member of a collaborative problem-solving team with biologists and district wildlife managers to coordinate animal capture operations, collar maintenance, monitoring, collar recovery, data entry, and annual reporting of findings as required by the operational and annual work plans. This position will also work with biologists and staff to provide data and input into wildlife management plans and recommendations and to mitigate any impacts on wildlife and habitats.
Wildlife Management Recommendations Formulates and presents wildlife management recommendations to CPW staff by collecting, compiling, analyzing, and interpreting biological data. Provides support in the form of data, reports, and comments to other CPW employees. Provides biological expertise through review of internal and external plans, environmental statements, and other decision documents.
Wildlife and Habitat Inventories Conduct wildlife and habitat inventories to guide local wildlife and habitat management decisions under the direction of other staff and biologists. Collect and analyze data to compile reports on wildlife abundance, demographics and distribution and/or habitat quantity and quality.
Wildlife Management and Habitat Studies Conducts or participates in wildlife and habitat management studies to gather biological data by planning studies, capturing, marking, monitoring wildlife populations and habitat, analyzing and interpreting results, completing reports, and delivering presentations.
Wildlife Habitat Management Work with Area biologists, habitat coordinators, and Area Wildlife Managers to implement habitat management programs and plans.
Wildlife Population Management Employs computer-based wildlife population models by interpretation and manipulation of data obtained from wildlife inventories, hunter harvest data, other field observations, and research results.
Educates and Informs the Public Educates and informs the public on all facets of wildlife and habitat management by disseminating wildlife information to hunters, wildlife constituents, schools, and public media, including newspapers and radio/television.

Minimum Qualifications
Four (4) years of relevant experience in Wildlife research, Wildlife management, Conservation Biology, Ecology, Wildlife Biology or an occupation related to the work assigned to the position
OR
A combination of related education in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Biology, Aquatic Biology/Fishery Science/Aquaculture/Fishery Management, Ecology, Environmental Science, Zoology/Animal Sciences and/or relevant experience in Wildlife research, Wildlife management, Conservation Biology, Ecology, Wildlife Biology or other relevant experience equal to four (4) years
*You must adequately demonstrate your experience in your application as it relates to the duties of this position. No formal college education is required.
Job Class: Technician Preferred Qualifications
- Current or former State experience relevant to this position
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with supervisors, coworkers and the public.
- Ability to operate four-wheel drive vehicles, snow machines, ATVs, and UTVs.
- Ability to use GIS for mapping and analysis.

- Occasional travel for meetings, conferences, workshops, etc., will be required, approximately 10 nights per year.

- Have an assigned State fleet vehicle
- Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position
- Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle
