Environmental Field Support
This position provides comprehensive Environmental Field Support for the Project Management & Construction (PMC) organization supporting Solar and Battery construction projects throughout Florida. The candidate is responsible for complex technical work in a wide range of environmental disciplines to achieve compliance with the organization’s environmental standards and with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Works under very general direction, and independently determines and develops approaches and solutions. Uses extensive experience to anticipate and prevent environmental events. Participates in the investigation of ecological events. Recommends improvements in environmental processes, planning, design, procedures, and implementation. Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice in concert with other professionals as appropriate. Provides regulatory-required and internal environmental reports. Maintains current knowledge of environmental laws and regulations, and working knowledge on the scientific and technical aspects of regulatory requirements and how they may impact Company operations. May act as a technical expert and provide direction to less experienced personnel.
Responsibilities
Serves as a single point of contact to support multiple simultaneous complex environmental activities that require comprehensive knowledge and advanced experience to support PMC in achieving and maintaining compliance with permits, regulations, and internal requirements with a strong focus on supporting construction in the field.
Provides field and planning support with respect to:
- Upfront permitting assistance (Phase I, ERP, Wildlife, SWPPP, etc.).
- Construction hazardous waste management (waste profiles, manifests, episodic events, etc.).
- Environmental compliance with respect to all active construction environmental permits across multiple projects concurrently (ERP, Wildlife, SPCC, etc.).
- Assists with commissioning/project turnover to operations.
- Working closely with FL EHS Siting Licensing and Permitting Group as well as Waste SMEs.
- Identifies and clearly communicates solutions to environmental issues as they arise. Provides direction and technical expertise support for complex work activities to maintain business unit compliance with environmental regulations and corporate requirements.
- Develops and recommends improvements in applicable programs, systems, and procedures, assisting the business unit with implementation as appropriate.
- Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice as appropriate. Provides regulatory-required and internal environmental reports. Supports/leads environmental compliance for solar construction.
- Interacts with management, EPCs, Consultants, and customers to ensure consistent and thorough implementation of environmental programs, policies, and procedures. Anticipates and prevents environmental events and participates in the investigation of events if necessary.
- Develops and provides training on environmental topics to business unit personnel as appropriate.
Basic/Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree and 6 plus years of directly related work experience; OR 10 plus years of directly related work experience in lieu of a degree.
Desired Qualifications
- Strong background in Solar construction with multiple successful projects completed and experience working within the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) atmosphere.
- Demonstrated technical skills in water, waste, and erosion control discipline areas. Experience in negotiating with regulators.
- Strong collaboration, communication (both oral and written), and interpersonal skills with a customer-oriented focus. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
- Demonstrated ability in developing and implementing systems and processes that comply with environmental laws and regulations, permit conditions, corporate policies, goals, and targets.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and successfully complete each of them within specified timeframes.
- Ten years of direct environmental field experience.
- Successful track record in supporting environmental compliance at multiple projects within multiple regulatory jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage/lead personnel from diverse groups working toward a common goal or objective.
- Possess certification(s) as an environmental professional (QEP, CHMM, PMP, etc.), or Registration (PE).
- Registered Florida Qualified Stormwater Management Inspector .
