Construction Inspector
The Construction Inspector supports 633 CES/CENM project managers by monitoring construction and renovation projects and verifying contractor compliance with approved plans, specifications, contract requirements, applicable building codes, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), and Air Force Civil Engineer guidance.
Projects may include complex administrative facilities, hospitals, aircraft maintenance and industrial facilities, and utility-distribution systems supporting the F-22 FTU Beddown mission. The Construction Inspector serves as a key field representative, identifies quality and schedule concerns, documents noncompliant work, and provides timely inspection-based information to Government project managers and the Contracting Officer.
A government contract requires that this position be restricted to U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. You must provide documentation that you are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to qualify.
Compensation & Benefits:
Estimated Starting Salary Range for Construction Inspector: Although this is not yet an approved position, we are accepting applications for this future and anticipated need. The applicable salary range will be posted promptly upon award of the contract and once funding for the position has been determined. No offer will be extended prior to posting the applicable salary range.
Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K and other possible benefits as provided. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice.
Construction Inspector Responsibilities Include:
- Review construction work for compliance with approved drawings, specifications, contract requirements, UFC, applicable building codes, and 32-series Air Force Civil Engineer instructions.
- Conduct site inspections of construction and renovation projects involving administrative, medical, industrial, aircraft-maintenance, and utility-distribution facilities.
- Coordinate with 633 CES/CENM project managers and construction contractor representatives to resolve questions involving schedules, plans, specifications, materials, workmanship, and construction methods.
- Monitor construction schedules and identify delays, progress concerns, sequencing issues, and other conditions that may affect project quality, cost, or timely completion.
- Review contractor cost breakdowns, progress-measurement data, material and equipment reports, field inspection reports, and survey reports.
- Support the Government's review of contractor progress-payment requests by validating completed work and providing inspection-based progress information.
- Review contractor submittals and progress schedules. Provide recommendations to the Government regarding approval, disapproval, or required correction.
- Identify, document, and report construction deficiencies, unacceptable materials, incomplete work, and nonconforming conditions.
- Coordinate with the Government project team and Contracting Officer, as directed, to support corrective action for noncompliant work.
- Investigate and document controversial conditions, potential claims, disputed work, and other matters that have led—or may lead—to formal contractor claims.
- Maintain complete and accurate daily construction logs, inspection records, safety reports, photographs, correspondence, and project documentation.
- Prepare Construction Dailies, Weekly Activity Reports, inspection reports, and other written correspondence required to document contract administration and construction progress.
- Maintain professional, timely communication with Government personnel, construction contractors, and project stakeholders.
Construction Inspector Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities Requested:
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience inspecting commercial, industrial, institutional, utility, or Department of Defense construction projects.
- Working knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, schedules, cost breakdowns, quality-control practices, and field-inspection procedures.
- Familiarity with Air Force Civil Engineer practices, Unified Facilities Criteria, applicable building codes, and federal construction-contract requirements.
- Experience supporting construction administration, contractor submittal review, progress verification, deficiency documentation, and project closeout activities.
- Ability to interpret architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and utility drawings and specifications.
- Strong written communication skills and the ability to prepare clear daily logs, inspection reports, safety reports, and professional correspondence.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and project-documentation tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC), Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC), or installation civil-engineering organizations.
- Experience inspecting complex renovation, utility-distribution, aircraft-maintenance, medical, or industrial construction projects.
- Must pass pre-employment requirements of Cherokee Federal.
