Medical Clerk - Department of Radiology

MEDICAL CLERK - DEPARTMENT OF RADIOLOGY (BAMC-2026-25416) Bowhead seeks Medical Clerks to support the Department of Radiology (DOR) at the Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, TX. The Medical Clerks are responsible for managing patient health records, processing discharge paperwork, and performing various administrative duties at BAMC located at Fort Sam Houston, TX. Responsibilities Greeting and receiving patients in various clinics depending on the department assigned. Maintaining all patient records in accordance with regulations, ensuring each entry contains proper patient and healthcare provider identification. Filing medical documentation in the patient record and into research files as necessary. Performing administrative procedures and providing paperwork to patients to fill out regarding insurance, third‑party liability, or other designated documentation related to patient treatment. Conducting Quality Assurance monitoring using appropriate tools regarding the completion and contents of patient records. Managing clerical duties inherent to in‑processing (reception), care, and out‑processing (transition) of outpatients, families/caregivers, and guests, including notifying appropriate staff of patient arrival and reconciling end‑of‑shift/end‑of‑day processing and reports in MHS GENESIS and applications within Citrix Storefront. Responding to emergency calls and notifying emergency medical personnel; operating emergency phone lines, public announcement systems, and emergency alarms. Communicating with patients, family members/caregivers, and staff to provide information about clinic services, policies, procedures, and resolve complaints. Using MHS GENESIS to schedule appointments, perform cancellations, schedule follow‑up appointments, and conduct end‑of‑day closure ensuring disposition of the day’s clinic appointments and resolving discrepancies. Calling patients to confirm, cancel, or remind them of upcoming appointments, and rescheduling appointments if the provider is unavailable. Assisting patients requesting unscheduled examinations by obtaining information regarding the nature of the medical problem and making appropriate disposition in accordance with clinic policy guidelines. Performing additional duties as assigned, dependent upon the department assigned. Qualifications A high school diploma or equivalent is required at a minimum. At least two (2) years of experience in a hospital administrative environment. Administrative experience in a government and/or hospital setting is highly desired. Intermediate level computer/PC knowledge, including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven office environment where privacy and confidentiality are critical. Ability to work independently and in teams to ensure mission success. Must be able to pass a pre‑employment physical and provide proof of Tdap and Influenza vaccinations prior to employment and update as required. Physical Demands Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to twist, bend, and squat periodically. Security Clearance Requirements Currently, there are no security clearance requirements. Qualified candidates must be able to successfully obtain a NACI check to gain access to the facility.
