The opportunity

The Communications Assistant Director partners with business leaders to develop and execute strategic communications and engagement initiatives that inform, inspire, and connect internal and external audiences. This role drives communications planning, content development, creative storytelling, brand awareness, employee engagement, and event-related activities in support of key service lines, industry sectors, functional practices, and geographic markets across the Americas. Leveraging firm-approved Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and innovative communication approaches, the Communications Assistant Director delivers impactful, multi-channel communications, manages project timelines and resources, measures effectiveness, and collaborates closely with Communications Leadership and senior stakeholders to advance business objectives.

Your key responsibilities

• Responsible for the effective management and delivery of one or more processes, solutions and/or projects, ensuring a focus on quality and effective risk management
• Responsible for continuous process improvement, the identification of innovative solutions through research and analysis, insight and experience of best practices
• May manage professional employees or supervise others to deliver complex technical initiatives, with accountability for performance and results
• Applies depth of expertise to guide others and interprets internal / external issues to recommend quality solutions
• Meets performance objectives and metrics set locally (client service, quality and risk management, sales and business growth, solution development and teaming etc.)
• Partners with the business on a broad range of communications and engagement programs and initiatives.
• Drives communications and engagement planning, content creation and deployment, creative ideation, innovation, brand awareness and internal events. The Communications Assistant Director executes strategic communications efforts used to inform and motivate various internal and/or external audiences on behalf of the respective service line, industry segment, functional practice, geographic area, public relations, or other focus area in the Americas.
• Effectively and responsibly leverages firm-approved Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to create and implement a broad range of communication deliverables across multiple channels; allocates appropriate resources, manages deliverable timelines, measures effort success, while working in lockstep with the Communications Leader and senior leadership.

• Creates, develops and manages scope and schedule for moderate to complex communications projects for internal and/or external audiences. Plans and assigns resources to associated tasks and deliverables as appropriate. Manages resources and tasks based on project plan.
• Collaborates with the Communications Leader to develop plans designed to effectively communicate strategic objectives and initiatives. Presents complex ideas and anticipates potential objections. Leverages experience, insight and creativity to influence others to consider innovative solutions. Anticipates and communicates ramifications of decisions and issues to project stakeholders. Presents alternatives when obstacles and objections arise.
• Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with internal project stakeholders. Manages project stakeholders’ expectations. May be required to develop relationships with journalists and other media outlets.
• Creates strategic, targeted and impactful communications for Leadership to inform, inspire and motivate various internal and external audiences. The subject matter of these communications will cover a broad spectrum, ranging from markets and industry insight directed toward clients, to Talent initiatives and people programs aimed at strengthening firm culture to public relations. This role will be able to draft, obtain approval, and execute messaging through a variety of channels, including webcasts, podcasts, videos, social media, newsletters, firm-wide meetings, presentations, e-mails, intranet, and thought leadership.
• Possesses relevant market insight respective to their functional practice/internal clients. Also exudes strong comfort level working across service lines, industries and/or their respective functional practice/internal client groups.
• Understands environmental factors affecting the firm, the practice, and our markets. Works with team to understand goals and objectives of Leadership as ascertained from discussions within markets or their respective functional practice / internal clients’ network and synthesizes messages (client service, operations, strategy, Talent, Area management).
• Leverages AI tools to help develop and execute on deliverables, optimize workflow, and enhance quality. Leverages available technology - including AI - to measure impact of communications initiatives. Demonstrates ability to analyze measurement data to effectively advise leadership and ensure communications strategy evolves as needed.
• Responds to inquiries about communication deliverables for which they or team members are responsible. Possesses poise and confidence to professionally interact with all levels of management within the firm.
• Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
• Recognized for their communications knowledge, insight and experience within and outside their business unit. Acts as a strategic communications consultant with stakeholders when key business issues are discussed. Usually has responsibility for one or two subordinate staff members.
• Leverages AI-driven insights to inform decisions, anticipate issues and evaluate communications impact.
• Acts as project manager and directs activities functional business unit’s staff.
• Work is reviewed only for results obtained. Technical knowledge/skill may substitute for managerial responsibility.
• Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignment.
• Provides feedback to other staff on the job and through formal assessments

Skills and attributes for success

• Excellent written and oral communication skills (including presentations) as well as listening and interpretation skills.
• Must be able to articulate complex subject matter in a straightforward, concise and easily digestible manner for broad audiences.
• Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills, including the development of junior staff.
• Strong project management skills.
• Proficient in using AI tools for content creation and refinement and workflow automation. Receives limited supervision and is competent to work independently within area of communications activities. Review of work generally occurs at longer intervals.

To qualify you must have

• BA/BS degree required (4-year degree)
• A bachelor’s degree with a communications or related major, or equivalent experience.
• 5 - 7 years relevant experience

• We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business.  The base salary range for this job is: 
• • New York City, Boston, and Washington DC Metro Areas, Washington State, and Southern California offices – $120,000 to $204,000
  • Bay Area California offices – $125,000 to $212,500
  • All other offices locations in the US, including Sacramento – $100,000 to $187,000 
• Individual salaries within these ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography.  In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options.
• Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances. You’ll also be granted time off for designated EY Paid Holidays, Winter/Summer breaks, Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being.
