Clean Energy Manager
Con Edison
Overview About the Team & Mission Con Edison, a multibillion-dollar energy utility, is leading the clean energy transition in New York City and Westchester County. We are investing hundreds of millions of dollars annually to integrate distributed resources into our electric and gas systems, support electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and scale adoption of energy efficiency and clean heating technologies across our customers. Con Edison is accelerating New York’s clean energy transition by helping customers and developers connect solar, storage, and emerging technologies to the grid safely, quickly, and at scale. The Distributed Generation (DG) Group is the single front door for interconnection and the glue across Engineering, Energy Services, and Customer Operations. Our goal is simple: a smooth, transparent, best‑in‑class customer experience that gets clean energy projects energized faster and with fewer surprises while maintaining system reliability and meeting all regulatory requirements. Role Overview The Distributed Generation Strategy Manager will lead the Company’s strategy, policy, and regulatory work related to DG interconnection. You’ll bring together internal experts and external partners—customers and developers, aggregators, DPS Staff, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Joint Utilities Interconnection Policy Working Group (IPWG), and other stakeholders—to evolve policies and technical standards to expand integration of DG into Con Edison’s grid, improve interconnection processes, DG customer service offerings, data transparency and hosting‑capacity guidance, and expand the Company’s support for Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Order 2222 market participation. Your work will turn customer and operational insights, government and policy priorities, and stakeholder feedback into changes that make interconnection easier and expand progress toward DG goals. Responsibilities Core Responsibilities Lead collaboration with stakeholders to advance policy and standards work with internal and external stakeholders to develop and evaluate proposals and implementation plans to expand integration of DG into the grid, and lead development of financial and other models to understand business models and inform tariff and program design. Manage constructive stakeholder engagement with customers and developers, aggregators, Department of Public Service (DPS) Staff, NYSERDA, Joint Utilities (JU) Interconnection Policy Working Group (IPWG), and other stakeholders; turn feedback into actionable updates to procedures, settings, and specs. Manage a Strategy team of individual contributors that will support each of these efforts, coaching through challenges, developing their skills, and managing their performance. Turn analysis into outcomes to improve processes; study interconnection trends and pain points and recommend policy/process fixes that reduce rework and uncertainty to improve utility processes and the SIR so customers experience clearer steps and faster decisions. Support market participation; help with design of process for telemetry/control and distribution reliability needs for FERC Order 2222 so DG aggregations can participate while the local grid stays reliable. Lead monitoring of DG market demand and trends along with program performance to inform program strategy and customer services, while supporting the improvement of data and tool enhancements to PowerClerk integrations, maps, and guidance to help customers site and design projects more effectively. Lead development of regulatory filings; prepare DPS filings, guidance documents, and customer‑facing resources that make requirements straightforward and consistent, and represent the Company at industry conferences and meetings with external stakeholders related to the development of DER projects.
