What To Expect
This role focuses on optimizing the noise and vibration characteristics of Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus. The position is responsible for ensuring superior sound quality and consistent performance in production, addressing challenges at both the component and full product levels. Key areas of focus include fans, electric motors, gears, bearings, and joints/linkages specific to humanoid robotics. Collaboration with cross-functional teams will be essential to meet stringent performance targets, often requiring extended hours, including nights and weekends, to achieve project goals. What You'll Do Develop and implement strategies to optimize sound quality and minimize noise and vibration in Optimus components and assembliesConduct detailed testing and analysis at component and product levels to ensure consistency in productionPerform root cause analysis to identify and resolve noise and vibration issues across systemsUtilize advanced techniques such as sound source localization, transfer path analysis, and modal analysis for diagnosticsCollaborate with design and manufacturing teams to set and achieve noise and vibration performance targetsSupport health monitoring and fault detection for rotating machinery using vibration sensorsFabricate and test prototype components to validate design improvements What You'll Bring Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Acoustics, or equivalent experienceExpertise in sound source localization, transfer path analysis, modal analysis, and component-level noise and vibration testingProficiency in sound quality analysis with a deep understanding of psychoacoustics and hearing physiologyExperience in health monitoring and fault detection of rotating machinery using vibration sensorsStrong skills in root cause analysis for noise and vibration challengesFamiliarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing as it relates to noise and vibrationExperience with finite element analysis to establish component and product-level performance targets Benefits
