Job Title: Machinist Level 3-4

Job Description

The CNC Machinist Level 3-4 is an expert-level position responsible for complex machine setups, operations, troubleshooting, quality verification, employee training, and process improvement. This role involves informal leadership responsibilities such as coordinating production activities, supporting team members, and maintaining efficient machine operations.

Responsibilities

• Perform simple to complex CNC machine setups and production runs.

• Edit and troubleshoot CNC programs.

• Select and adjust speeds, feeds, tooling, and cutting parameters.

• Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, dimensions, and tolerances.

• Inspect parts using precision measuring equipment.

• Identify and correct machining issues to maintain quality standards.

• Train and mentor operators and machinists.

• Complete required production and ISO documentation.

• Perform preventive maintenance and maintain a safe work environment.

• Support continuous improvement efforts and document process changes.

• Set up and operate CNC machines according to engineering specifications.

• Run multiple machines simultaneously.

• Troubleshoot machine, tooling, and process issues.

• Create advanced CNC programs when required.

• Design and recommend tooling and fixturing solutions.

• Support engineering and other manufacturing departments.

Essential Skills

• 5-10 years of CNC Machining experience

• Advanced proficiency in CNC programming, including creation, modification, and optimization of programs

• Strong knowledge of G-Code, M-Code, macro programming, and machine control systems

• Experience with CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, SolidWorks CAM, Fusion 360, ESPRIT, or comparable systems

• Expert ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and GD&T requirements

• Experience programming and operating 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis CNC machining centers

• Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills related to machining, tooling, quality, and production issues

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Fanuc controls experience

• Okuma experience

• Knowledge of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement methodologies, and waste reduction principles

• Ability to develop tooling, fixturing, and process improvement solutions that reduce cycle times and improve quality

Work Environment

This position operates on the first shift from 5:30 AM to 4:00 PM, totaling 50 hours a week. The facility maintains a clean and temperature-controlled environment to ensure optimal working conditions.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tinley Park, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
