Material Planner

POSITION SUMMARY The Materials Planner partners closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing, Supply Chain, and Production teams to maintain efficient operations, support engineering changes, reduce inventory discrepancies and obsolete materials, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. This position plays a key role in achieving inventory, production, quality, and cost objectives while maintaining compliance with company policies, ISO standards, Lean Manufacturing principles, and 5S practices. RESPONSIBILITIES Coordinate planning for materials department Coordinating processing of materials to POU location by requirement date Responsible for inventory accuracy and achieving inventory goals Responsible for MRP; work MRP messages and monitor daily OAS (order action summary) Ensure all aspects of the MRB processes are followed Monitor, measure and meet all materials measurements Drive the reduction of inventory adjustments Ensure accurate implementation of Engineering Change Orders to released jobs Responsible for discrete job accuracy; maintaining accuracy of 500 series requirements and reject requirements Assist in reducing obsolete inventory Ensure work orders are released to manufacturing in a timely manner; follow up on release dates Maintain sub-inventories Coordinate kitting activities from New Flyer/MCI to identified suppliers; update daily kitting reports and lists Work with capacity planning to find under/over loads; determine if outsourcing or level loading is required; update weekly capacity charts Lead materials planning in key areas: make IR process, communication to other plants, reduce obsolete to zero, keep gateways and bowling alleys empty at shift end, reduce past due demand to zero, reduce negatives to zero, deliver new work order packages daily, release shop orders to start date, review daily dispatch list, release planned orders to release date, correct materials in shop order BOM, adjust shop order quantities, ensure mclose jobs are auctioned daily, work shop order process to completion stages Work with Manufacturing Engineering to keep routing updated Prepare and publish past due measurement KPIs Monitor and track parts status prior to and during production build Attend and participate in departmental toolbox meetings Assist in the development, communication and deployment of policies, guidelines and tools to ensure success in all processes Assist the materials team and leadership in achieving the material budget, including supplies, salary/indirect labor, overtime and operational expenses Ensure data entered in the system is accurate Drive continuous improvement in the supply base to support business objectives Promote and facilitate lean manufacturing / 5S programs for materials Assist and participate in cross training Ensure compliance with ISO procedures, work instructions and 5S, promote continuous improvement within the department Assist manufacturing on day-to-day tasks EDUCATION (Preferred) APICS certification or current enrollment in the APICS program EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE (Preferred) 3–5 years previous experience Manufacturing experience EQUIPMENT / MACHINES USED Computer and other equipment related to essential functions SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS Analytical skills, multi-tasking, team player, ability to work in a fast paced environment PHYSICAL ACTIVITY / REQUIREMENTS General office physical activity; walking, sitting BENEFITS Be a part of a team leading the world's electrification of mass mobility Competitive wages and comprehensive benefit package with immediate benefit eligibility Paid holidays and vacation 401K with generous company match Inclusive workplace culture that values and empowers team members On-the-job training in a continuous learning environment (we invested $15.9 million in 2024) Advancement opportunities within our family of companies WHY JOIN US Passionate about creating a better product, a better workplace, and a better world New Flyer is committed to administering all employment matters in accordance with the value we place on fostering an inclusive and welcoming workplace that values the contributions of all team members.
