Registered Nurse - Jail Health Services, Career Service

Overview Public Health Seattle-King County is hiring Registered Nurse (RN) for correctional health specialty to provide skilled, medically needed health care to adults in custody at the King County Jails. This role will deliver comprehensive nursing and mental health services to a diverse and underserved population. Responsibilities Provide patient care based upon practice guidelines, community standards of care, and federal and state laws and regulations. Conduct nursing assessments and interventions including medical, dental, and psychiatric screening; monitor and document treatment progress and patient response. Evaluate, monitor, and treat drug and alcohol withdrawal. Carry out prescribed treatments and wound care. Administer medications and vaccinations. Provide mental health services as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Respond to emergencies throughout the facility; provide CPR when needed. Offer health education. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Current Washington State Registered Nurse license in good standing. Associate preparation in nursing science or higher-level nursing degree (BSN, MSN, DNP, or PhD) from an accredited school of nursing. Pass required security clearance, background check, pre-employment physical, and credentialing. Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification for healthcare providers. Valid Washington State Driver’s License or ability to travel to various sites within Seattle-King County. Work Schedule Positions are full benefit; career service with 0.8‑1.0 FTE. Covers morning, evening, and/or night shifts, with possible overtime and work outside typical schedule. Work Location Primary work location: King County Correctional Facility, 500 5th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98104. Union Affiliation Washington State Nurses Association (WSNA). Necessary Special Requirements Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification. Ability to pass a thorough background investigation. Completion of pre‑employment physical. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer use for regular work functions. Adherence to OSHA/WISHA guidelines and mandatory trainings. Regular attendance and effective communication skills. Ability to develop working relationships with staff and patients. Potential assignment of duties outside regular job description in emergencies or deployments.
