OSP Fiber - Network Maintenance TechnicianThe OSP Fiber - Network Maintenance Technician is responsible for network reliability to include outage reporting to fiber cabinets, fiber splitter cabinets, and fiber developments. Maintaining existing network backbone from ROW builds as well as aerial builds. Fixing and repairing anything and everything that is negatively affecting our network.Essential Functions:Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Must be able to splice any type of fiber optic cable in any type of conditionMust be able to run and safely operate a bucket truckMust be able to run and safely operate a mini excavatorMust have previous experience maintaining live optical / LOS networksMust have critical thinking skills in potentially high stress situationsMust understand low voltage theories to include AC and DC polaritiesMust understand AC to DC rectifying principlesMust understand PON and GPON technologies and be able to troubleshoot outagesMust be able to run OTDR and troubleshoot fiber from network to end userMust be able to record all data and document that for management and engineeringMust understand backbone, feeder, and AP principals in FTTX practicesMust be able to receive direction from management and lead a crew underneath to success during any maintenance eventsMust be able to orchestrate any controlled outages / repairs, this includes working with NOC, filling out and filing the appropriate paperwork and working with the appropriate channels for a successful controlled outageMust be willing to work extended hours, often prepping during the day and working into the nightMust be able to differentiate the difference between different sizes and colors of cablesExperience conducting and providing trainingMust have experience with DOT regulationAbility to communicate in person and by telephoneMaintains network integrity through preventive maintenanceAbility to use any equipment in a safe manner, in accordance with company, industry and regulatory standardsWorks on regularly scheduled days as well as unscheduled days and beyond regular work hours as requiredSkill in using a Windows-based computerAbility to prioritize and organize effectivelyAbility to work independently and with othersAbility to read and repair from blueprints and/or wire diagramsAbility to complete mechanical tasks such as fiber splicing, reading meters (volt, RF and Fiber), conducting tests and performing troubleshooting measures to achieve plant level requirementsAble to work in all-weather climatesAs needed repair and maintenance of headend electronics and critical infrastructure equipmentComplete daily production reports, mark up maps, keep track of work hours and complete "as-built" maps for areas workedSafely operate and use bucket truck to complete maintenance assignmentsAbility to work majority nights shiftsAbility to use computer based programs required to support the activation and verification of electronic equipment installsAble to work at varying heights from a bucket truck, as well as ground level in underground vaultsWork within a team environment to ensure the full job scope is completed within the scheduled timeframeReach, push, pull, hold, grasp and perform fine manipulation task on cable and electronic equipmentSkills:Good communication and organizational skillsAbility to work independently as well as in a team environmentUnderstand construction prints and splice documentsMust be able to work outside in all weather conditions as well as in a splicing trailerDedicated to safety and keeping a safe work environmentAbility to work within a fast-paced, high-change environment while managing multiple interruptions and adjustments to priorities throughout the day.Must pass a drug screening test and a criminal background check.Must have time management skills and understand the importance of managing timeMust have a proven track record of being on timeMust maintain a clean and presentable company vehicleMust be able to multi-task and handle multiple project standings at one timeEducation and Experience:High school diploma or GED equivalent required.Experience with fiber toolsJob Classification:Field InfrastructureNon-ExemptWork Environment /Hazards:Outdoor elements and working with aerial plantIn proximity of heavy machinery and moving vehiclesWorking close to power transformersModerate to loud noise levelsUse of PPEPhysical Demands:Sitting stationary for long periods of time splicingClimbing ladders, crouching, balance, kneel, stoopWorking in all weather conditionsWorking Hours/Days:Min 40 hoursOvertime as neededMainly night workTravel Requirements:70-100% travel requiredAffirmative Action (AAP/EEO Statement):Nextlink is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
