Senior UI Developer (React / TypeScript – Mobile)

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior UI Developer with deep expertise in React, TypeScript, and mobile application development to join our Birmingham-based team. This role focuses on building and evolving a high-performance mobile application built with Ionic React running in a WebView (Capacitor). Candidates with strong React Native experience are encouraged to apply, provided they are comfortable ramping quickly on Ionic/Capacitor. The ideal candidate has a proven history of delivering scalable, responsive mobile applications that integrate with structured backend APIs and third-party services.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-quality mobile features using React and TypeScript within an Ionic/Capacitor WebView.
• Contribute to and evolve front-end architecture, component patterns, and shared UI libraries.
• Quickly ramp up on Ionic/Capacitor (if coming from React Native) while applying best practices in mobile UI/UX and performance.
• Write clean, efficient, reusable, and well-documented TypeScript code.
• Implement and maintain comprehensive testing strategies, including unit and integration tests using Jest and React Testing Library.
• Optimize application performance, scalability, and overall user experience.
• Collaborate closely with UX/UI designers, backend engineers, and product owners to deliver cohesive and intuitive user experiences.
• Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives).
• Mentor and review the work of junior developers, ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices.
• Stay current with modern front-end and mobile development trends to drive innovation within the team.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 10+ years of overall software development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with React and the mobile React ecosystem. Ionic/Capacitor experience preferred. React Native experience acceptable.
• Advanced proficiency in TypeScript and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
• Solid experience with HTML5, CSS3, SASS/SCSS, and responsive/mobile-first design.
• Hands-on experience with state management libraries such as Redux, Zustand, or Recoil.
• Strong experience integrating with RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL services.
• Practical experience with unit and integration testing (Jest, React Testing Library).
• Familiarity with Git-based version control and CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a cross-functional team.
• Ability to work on-site in Birmingham on a hybrid schedule.

Nice to Have

• Backend development experience with Java.
• Experience working with relational or NoSQL databases.
• Prior experience building enterprise-scale or consumer-facing mobile applications.
• Exposure to mobile performance optimization and WebView constraints.
