PROPERTY DIRECTOR - THE BRIDGES GOLF CLUB Location : San Ramon, California Employment Type : Full-Time | Exempt Compensation : $90,000+ annually, plus performance-based incentives Reports To : Regional Management / Ownership POSITION SUMMARY The Bridges Golf Club is seeking an experienced, hands-on General Manager to provide overall leadership, financial accountability, and operational direction for the property. The General Manager is responsible for the guest experience and daily performance of the Club, including Golf Operations, Food & Beverage, Restaurant and Bar, Banquets and Events, Sales and Marketing, Golf Course Maintenance coordination, staffing, financial controls, vendor management, and facility operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong golf industry background, with PGA membership or certification strongly preferred, combined with exceptional Food & Beverage management experience. The successful candidate must understand that a high-performing golf club requires both an excellent golf operation and a profitable, well-managed hospitality operation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Club Leadership & Operations Provide leadership and operational oversight for all departments. Establish clear expectations, performance standards, and accountability for department managers. Maintain a visible presence throughout the golf course, clubhouse, restaurant, Pro Shop, banquet facilities, and guest areas. Conduct regular management and departmental meetings. Promote strong communication between Golf, Food & Beverage, Sales, Maintenance, Marketing, and Administration. Identify operational problems and implement timely corrective action. Develop short- and long-term operational priorities consistent with company objectives. Communicate significant financial, staffing, facility, operational, and customer-service matters to Regional Management and Ownership. Golf Operations Oversee the Pro Shop, tee sheet, tournaments, outings, leagues, merchandise, starters, marshals, and guest services. Supervise and support Golf Professionals and Golf Operations employees. Monitor daily rounds, tee-sheet utilization, pricing, revenue, pace of play, and golfer satisfaction. Identify opportunities to increase golf revenue and maximize tee-time utilization. Oversee tournament and corporate golf operations. Ensure coordination between Golf, Sales, Food & Beverage, and Maintenance for tournaments and special events. Monitor Pro Shop inventory, purchasing, merchandising, margins, cash controls, and POS procedures. Support programs that encourage repeat play, customer loyalty, player development, and community engagement. Maintain professional relationships with golfers, members, tournament organizers, community partners, and golf organizations. PGA / Golf Experience PGA membership or PGA certification is strongly preferred. Candidates should have strong knowledge of golf course and club operations, tee-sheet management, tournaments, golf merchandising, golf rules, player services, golf programming, revenue management, pace of play, customer relations, and golf-industry best practices. Food & Beverage Leadership - Major Priority Provide leadership and accountability for Food & Beverage operations. Supervise and support the Food & Beverage Director, Executive Chef, restaurant, and banquet leadership. Maintain high standards for food quality, presentation, service, cleanliness, and hospitality. Monitor restaurant and banquet financial performance. Review food cost, beverage cost, labor, sales mix, purchasing, inventory, waste, discounts, comps, voids, and profitability. Ensure effective food and beverage inventory controls. Review menu pricing, product costs, and contribution margins. Evaluate staffing based on anticipated business volume. Ensure effective communication between the kitchen, service team, Golf Operations, and Sales. Monitor guest feedback and take corrective action when service standards are not met. Ensure compliance with applicable food safety, sanitation, and responsible alcohol-service requirements. Develop strategies with F&B leadership to increase restaurant and event revenue while maintaining appropriate cost controls. Maintain appropriate management presence during high-volume periods and major events. Banquets, Weddings, Tournaments & Events Oversee operational execution of tournaments, weddings, banquets, corporate events, meetings, and special functions. Ensure Sales, Golf, Food & Beverage, and Maintenance communicate effectively before events. Participate in production and operational meetings as appropriate. Review staffing requirements, timelines, event details, and special client requests. Ensure facilities are properly prepared and staffed. Monitor event execution, profitability, and guest satisfaction. Support Sales in developing repeat business, corporate outings, charity tournaments, weddings, and private events. Address recurring service or operational issues and establish corrective plans. Financial Management & Accountability Participate in preparation and management of annual operating budgets. Review departmental revenue and expenses against budget. Review monthly Profit & Loss statements and financial results. Analyze significant revenue, labor, and expense variances. Develop corrective action plans for departments not meeting financial expectations. Monitor payroll, scheduling, overtime, and labor productivity. Review purchasing practices and significant expenditures. Monitor vendor pricing and control unnecessary expenses. Maintain appropriate controls over cash, POS systems, registers, safes, deposits, refunds, credits, discounts, gift cards, and chargebacks. Revenue Growth & Business Development Golf rounds and green fees Tournament and outing business Restaurant and bar sales Banquets and weddings Corporate events Golf instruction and player development Special events Membership or loyalty programs Community partnerships and sponsorships Sales, Marketing & Reputation Work closely with Sales and Marketing to increase golf, restaurant, tournament, banquet, and event revenue. Review upcoming business and sales opportunities. Support corporate golf, charity tournament, wedding, banquet, and community-event development. Participate in major client meetings when appropriate. Monitor online reviews and customer feedback. Ensure complaints are addressed promptly and professionally. Work with Marketing to develop promotions based on business needs and measurable opportunities. Evaluate the performance and effectiveness of promotional programs. Golf Course Maintenance Coordination Meet regularly with the Superintendent regarding course conditions and operational priorities. Understand significant irrigation, equipment, infrastructure, and maintenance needs. Coordinate maintenance activities with tournaments, events, and golf schedules. Communicate significant golfer feedback regarding course conditions. Review major equipment, repair, and capital recommendations. Assist with long-term capital and infrastructure planning. Communicate significant maintenance risks or requirements to Regional Management and Ownership. Human Resources & Team Leadership Recruit, develop, and retain qualified employees and department leaders. Participate in interviewing and hiring key personnel. Establish performance expectations and hold managers accountable. Provide coaching, direction, and performance feedback. Ensure managers properly supervise, schedule, and manage employees. Monitor attendance, scheduling, timekeeping, overtime, and labor productivity. Coordinate disciplinary and employee-relations matters with Human Resources. Ensure compliance with company employment policies and applicable wage-and-hour requirements. Promote a professional and respectful workplace. Address performance problems promptly. Develop succession and staffing plans for critical positions. Ensure appropriate onboarding, training, documentation, and employee development. Vendor, Purchasing & Inventory Management Maintain professional relationships with approved vendors. Review vendor performance, pricing, purchasing, and significant expenditures. Obtain competitive pricing when appropriate. Ensure department managers follow purchasing and approval procedures. Prevent unauthorized purchases and unnecessary expenses. Review questionable or unusual invoices. Coordinate significant vendor issues with Accounting, Regional Management, or Ownership. Maintain appropriate controls over company inventory, equipment, and supplies. Facility, Safety & Risk Management Routinely inspect the clubhouse, restaurant, Pro Shop, banquet facilities, patios, restrooms, parking areas, and other guest-facing spaces. Maintain high standards for cleanliness, appearance, safety, and facility condition. Ensure facility deficiencies are addressed promptly. Promote a strong workplace safety culture. Ensure accidents, injuries, property damage, and guest incidents are documented and reported promptly. Monitor workplace hazards and unsafe conditions. Ensure departments follow applicable emergency, food-safety, alcohol-service, and workplace-safety procedures. Protect company property and ensure appropriate security and access controls. Customer & Member Relations Maintain a visible and approachable presence throughout the Club. Develop positive relationships with golfers, members, guests, tournament organizers, event clients, and community partners. Personally address significant customer concerns when appropriate. Monitor recurring complaints and identify underlying operational issues. Establish high expectations for hospitality and service recovery. Promote a culture in which every department understands its responsibility for the overall guest experience. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in golf, club, resort, hospitality, or a related operation. Previous experience as a General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Director of Golf, Club Manager, or comparable leadership position strongly preferred. PGA membership or PGA certification strongly preferred. Strong golf-industry knowledge and operational experience. Significant Food & Beverage leadership experience strongly preferred. Experience overseeing restaurant, bar, banquet, wedding, tournament, and/or special-event operations. Strong understanding of P&L statements, budgeting, forecasting, labor management, and cost controls. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple departments and department leaders. Strong business judgment, organizational ability, and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to increase revenue, improve service, control costs, and improve operational performance. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience with POS systems and business technology. Ability to communicate effectively with Ownership, Regional Management, employees, guests, vendors, and community partners. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced golf and hospitality environment. EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Golf Management, Recreation Management, or related field preferred. PGA Professional Golf Management education or certification highly desirable. ServSafe or comparable Food Safety Manager certification preferred. Responsible Beverage Service certification as required. Significant relevant management experience may substitute for formal education. PHYSICAL & SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS This is an active, hands-on management position. With or without reasonable accommodation, the General Manager must be able to regularly walk throughout the clubhouse and golf course property, navigate stairs and uneven terrain, move between indoor and outdoor environments, and occasionally lift or carry items weighing approximately 30-40 pounds. Golf and hospitality operations require flexibility beyond a traditional Monday-through-Friday schedule.
