Job Title: Electrical Assembler Job Description

The Electrical Assembler builds, inspects, and tests electronic assemblies, ensuring that all products meet documented quality standards. This role involves hand soldering of through-hole and surface-mount components, performing visual inspections, and utilizing basic electronic test equipment to verify product performance before release. The position is suitable for candidates ranging from entry to senior level, with opportunities to take on more complex tasks and leadership responsibilities as experience grows.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed visual quality inspections of parts prior to assembly to ensure components meet required standards.
• Read, interpret, and apply documented quality system procedures during all assembly and inspection activities.
• Hand solder through-hole and surface-mount electronic components with precision and consistency.
• Assemble electrical and electronic products according to schematics, blueprints, and work instructions.
• Inspect and test completed products using appropriate methods and equipment to confirm readiness for release.
• Use small hand tools, ESD equipment, and a microscope to handle and assemble delicate electronic components.
• Utilize basic electronics test equipment, such as multimeters, voltmeters, ohm meters, and current meters, to verify functionality (preferred).
• Enter test results and production information into computer applications accurately and in a timely manner.
• Follow established safety, ESD, and quality practices throughout the assembly and testing process.
• For senior-level employees, provide guidance, training, and support to less experienced assemblers and contribute to continuous improvement in assembly processes.

Essential Skills

• Electrical and electronic assembly experience, with 6 months to 1 year of electronics experience preferred for entry to intermediate level candidates.
• At least 6 years of experience in the electronic field for senior-level candidates, including lead or training responsibilities.
• Ability to perform hand soldering on through-hole and surface-mount components with good technique and reliability.
• Capability to use small hand tools, ESD equipment, and a microscope for precise electronic assembly work.
• Basic computer skills, including the ability to open and close applications and accurately enter data.
• Ability to read and follow documented quality system procedures, schematics, and blueprints.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, reliable electronic assemblies.
• High school education.
• For senior-level candidates, strong electronic field experience and the ability to mentor and support other team members.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with electronics test equipment such as multimeters, voltmeters, ohm meters, and current meters is preferred.
• Soldering skills beyond basic competency are preferred, particularly for more complex assemblies.
• Ability to interpret and work from electrical schematics and technical drawings.
• Associate degree in an electronics-related field is preferred for senior-level candidates.
• Prior experience in a small electronics manufacturing or assembly environment is beneficial.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.

Work Environment

This role is based in a small, climate-controlled facility in Yorktown with a current team of about 12 employees, fostering a collaborative and supportive atmosphere. The standard shift runs from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with flexibility to accommodate school schedules and other personal needs. Work is performed at electronics assembly workstations using small hand tools, ESD equipment, microscopes, and basic electronic test instruments, in a setting focused on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newport News, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
