Sr. Telecom Engineer

An employer in the Houston, TX area is seeking Senior Communications Technician to join their team. On a daily basis, this person will support and maintain nationwide Avaya telecommunications environment across pipeline, storage, and production facilities. On a daily basis, this individual will troubleshoot communication issues, manage Avaya Communication Manager systems, and provide support for media gateways including G430 and G450 platforms. The role involves both field and office responsibilities, including hardware replacements, system upgrades, preventative maintenance, and supporting telecommunications projects across the Houston, Beaumont, Mont Belvieu, and surrounding areas. This person will work closely with operations teams, contractors, carriers, and internal IT groups to resolve issues and ensure reliable voice communications for critical business operations. Additionally, the technician will participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, providing after-hours support for system outages, upgrades, and emergency telecommunications needs.

This is a permanent opportunity paying $98,000 - 118,000 annually

Required Skills & Experience

7+ years of hands-on experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Avaya telecommunications systems in an enterprise environment.

Strong experience supporting Avaya Communication Manager (CM), Session Manager, System Manager, and G430/G450 media gateways.

Proven ability to diagnose and resolve voice network, trunking, hardware, and telecommunications infrastructure issues independently.

Experience performing field support activities including equipment installations, hardware replacements, preventative maintenance, and telecom project implementation.

Ability to travel throughout the Houston-area region as needed and participate in a 24/7 on-call support rotation.


Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Experience supporting legacy Avaya gateway platforms such as G650 or G700 systems.

CCNA or other telecommunications/networking certifications.

Experience supporting telecommunications environments within the oil & gas, pipeline, midstream, or industrial sectors.
