Supervisor I Position

If so, the California Secretary of State's Business Programs Division invites you to apply for the permanent, full-time Supervisor I position in the Business Entities Section. Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor II and the general direction of the Assistant Division Chief; as the first managerial level, the Supervisor I works with a high level of independence and is responsible for the administration of work processes and program functions relating to the Business Entities Section. Functions include statutory review and processing of business filings, staff oversight, policy alignment and influence, operational review and coordination, cross-Divisional collaboration, customer service support, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders. Duties encompass the following:

• Leadership, Guidance, Discipline, and Training
• Operational Review
• Management Support and Outreach

Desirable Qualifications:

• Excellent written communication skills and close attention to detail in reviewing subordinate work to meet divisional objectives.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise, organize, and lead teams, ensuring timely and accurate project completion.
• Proven experience managing personnel issues, including progressive discipline, performance documentation, and early intervention – particularly important in large production teams.
• Strong organizational and follow-up skills to ensure accountability and maintain oversight of high-volume operations.
• Ability to act independently with flexibility and sound judgment under pressure.
• Ability to analyze and clearly communicate ideas and information, both verbally and in writing.
• Strong collaboration skills and the ability to maintain cooperative working relationships across all levels of government.
• Knowledge of effective program management and supervision methods.
• Understanding of the legislative process, including fiscal and policy analysis.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite applications.
