Advanced Locksmith Level 1

Position: Advanced Locksmith Level 1 A critical role in supporting campus safety, security, and access control by providing advanced technical expertise, project leadership, and operational support for locksmith services across campus. Key Responsibilities Serve as a technical expert, guiding and coaching technicians on installation techniques. Research critical information, including key bittings array, construction documents, and guidelines. Apply the Simple K enrollment process and procedures. Review construction plans and hardware specifications to meet University specifications. Perform hardware specification take-offs. Manage project tasks with working knowledge of processes and timelines. Provide cost estimates and proposals for work. Monitor and track orders to ensure timely completion. Assist in developing project timelines and milestones. Allocate appropriate resources and time for work. Communicate scope of work to customers effectively. Lead and oversee journey-level technicians. Maintain clear verbal and written communication with supervisors, teammates, and the public. Lift, carry, and maneuver materials weighing 30–60 pounds, standing for extended periods, working in confined spaces, using various tools, climbing ladders, and working in environments with insects or small animals. Other Responsibilities Be on-call and report to work during adverse weather or alternate campus schedules; assist with snow and ice removal. Manage continuing education requirements and renew professional locksmith licenses. Oversee special projects and administrative assignments delegated by supervisor. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Experience/Education High school diploma or equivalency, or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Preferred Qualifications Extensive experience as a locksmith, preferably in an institutional setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel. Familiarity with AiM work order systems. Membership in the Associated Institutional Locksmith Association or recognized industry organization. Certified Journey Level Certification and/or Fire Door Inspector Certification. Required Licenses or Certifications Current North Carolina locksmith license, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire, maintained thereafter. Valid North Carolina driver’s license required within 60 days of hire and maintained thereafter. Work Schedule Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Location: Raleigh, NC.
