Description:
This unit has 28 beds with an average nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 during the day and evening shifts, and 1:5 to 1:7 during night shifts.


Patients are primarily cardiac, with up to 75% of cases involving cardiology, such as pre/post catheters, pre-CABG, chest pain, and NSTEMIs.


General patients may include those with CHF, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, dialysis issues, altered mental status, nephrology, hematology, and wounds, with overflow strokes as well.


Nurses are required to titrate drips, which commonly include insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, diltiazem, and lasix.


Telemonitor technicians provide 24/7 monitoring of patients, although nurses are expected to read their own strips.


There is a charge nurse on the unit who has patients but does not take a full assignment to provide support and resources for nursing staff.


Nurse aides are available, with staffing ratios averaging 1 aid to 9 patients during the day and evening shifts, and up to 14 during the night.


Equipment available includes continuous CPAP and BiPAP, high flow oxygen, vapotherm, nebulizers, and chest physical therapy, with no ventilators on site.


Self-scheduling is not available, but block scheduling may be accommodated.


Weekend requirements are every other weekend, and holiday requirements include every other holiday.


Agency staff are not placed on call, with scheduling done in 4-hour blocks based on staffing needs.


Nurses may be required to float to other medical/surgical floors, with efforts made to ensure fairness in rotations.


Staff may be asked to float outside the medical/surgical cluster if there is a need for patient observation on a 1:1 basis.


Clean and professional scrubs of any color are permitted.


All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility.
