Material Handler - 1st Shift

The Material Handler receives raw materials, supports front-end production, and ensures a steady flow of materials to each production work area. This role operates forklifts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, manages inventory movement, and helps maximize production output by coordinating material availability and replenishment.

Responsibilities:

• Receive raw materials and fulfill material needs for front-end production operations.
• Operate a sit-down forklift safely and efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Maintain continuous flow of raw materials to and from each production work area on the front end of production.
• Ensure machine operators have the correct raw materials loaded in cages at all times.
• Maximize production outputs by anticipating material requirements and managing raw material replenishment.
• Unload inbound raw material shipments, inspect contents, mark and tag items, and accurately record and verify all incoming materials.
• Handle 2,000 lb. coils with a high level of care and attention to safety.
• Perform FIFO (First-In, First-Out) material rotation in raw material staging areas.
• Record scrap from each machine at the end of every shift and maintain accurate documentation.
• Use RF scanners and computer or ERP systems to track inventory, stock levels, and material movement.
• Load and unload trucks, palletize materials, and organize stock in warehouse and staging areas.
• Support shipping, receiving, order picking, packing, and general warehouse tasks as needed.
• Adhere to and maintain compliance with established systems, policies, and procedures.
• Comply with all safety, housekeeping, and 5S standards to keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and production team members, keeping them informed of progress, issues, and outages.
• Coordinate with production and sales teams to understand incoming orders and what needs to be prepared or staged for production.

Essential Skills:

• At least 1 year of material handling experience with a forklift.
• Proven experience operating a sit-down forklift in a manufacturing, production, or warehouse environment.
• Ability to safely handle and move heavy materials, including 2,000 lb. coils.
• Experience with shipping and receiving processes, including unloading, inspecting, tagging, and recording inbound materials.
• Basic inventory handling skills, including stocking, palletizing, and organizing materials.
• Ability to maintain material flow to production areas and support front-end production operations.
• Capability to perform FIFO material rotation and accurately record scrap at the end of each shift.
• Strong attention to safety and adherence to established policies, procedures, and 5S standards.
• Effective communication skills to coordinate with supervisors, production team members, and other departments.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment and manage multiple tasks throughout the shift.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Inventory experience in a manufacturing or production setting is preferred.
• Experience using RF scanners for inventory tracking and order picking.
• Familiarity with computer systems, ERP software, or warehouse management systems.
• Experience in general labor, warehouse, or shipping and receiving roles.
• Experience with order picking, packing, loading and unloading trucks, and palletizing.
• Comfort working as part of a production team and coordinating work based on orders from sales teams.

Work Environment:

This role is based in a large production environment where you will work closely with production team members and coordinate activities based on orders coming in from the sales teams. The work involves frequent forklift operation, material handling, and interaction with warehouse and production areas. The facility is recently remodeled, expanded for additional space, and kept clean and well-organized. It is a temperature-controlled environment, providing a comfortable setting regardless of the season. Standard hours are 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a typical expectation to arrive before the start of the shift while still finishing at 2:30 p.m. The environment uses tools such as RF scanners, computers, and ERP systems to manage inventory, orders, and material flow, and follows structured safety, housekeeping, and 5S standards.

This is a Permanent position based out of Minneapolis, MN.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
