To administer medication (e.g., oral, intramuscular, and intravenous) and monitor patient medication compliance; perform treatments and perform or assist with nurse's sick call; assist with doctor's sick call; perform or assist with nursing management of chronic care clinics; respond to emergencies providing emergency care and cardiopulmonary resuscitation; perform subjective and objective assessment of patients; collect vital signs and timely document all findings; collect urine and/or other bodily fluid specimens; prepare patients for release or transfer to other facilities (e.g., intrasystem or out to court) by reviewing patient care, transfer summaries or release summaries; ensure discharge medication orders are completed and timely forwarded to pharmacy services; participate in work-related training and institution training exercises; provide assistance to other healthcare staff; investigate and document problem areas or areas of concern; review shift report from preceding shift(s); assist physicians with medical procedures; assume duties of other nurses during absences; counsel/provide education to patients regarding healthcare maintenance and prevention of disease; participate in quality assurance activities; provide training and work direction to new nurses, agency nurses, licensed practical nurses, and/or hospital aides; serve as a resource person for other healthcare and security staff regarding healthcare matters; provide orientation and training for new healthcare personnel at the direction of the Nursing Supervisor; serve as the lead clinical authority on site in the absence of the HCA, QIC, medical director and/or advanced level provider staff; participate in group programming; participate in health and wellness initiatives; perform administrative duties as indicated; attend meetings; schedule multidisciplinary team meetings; assume the duties of shift charge as assigned by the HCA making shift work assignments and adjustments as necessary; perform or assist with inventory and ordering of medical supplies; assist ancillary staff as needed to ensure patient care needs are met.

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is a tobacco-free workplace. Pre-Employment Drug Testing: All final applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to appointments. Testing will also be performed for the presence of marijuana. An applicant with a positive test shall not be offered employment unless the applicant submits medical documentation of legally prescribed medications or a recommendation for medical marijuana. Pre-Employment Background Investigation: The final applicant selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. An individual assessment of an applicant's prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration. The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is prohibited from hiring: individuals under a federal or state weapons disability if the position requires firearms certification/recertification and use; individuals who have engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other confinement facility; have been civilly or administratively adjudicated, or convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, implied threats of force, or if the victim did not or was unable to consent; individuals convicted of soliciting or providing support for an act of terrorism, terrorism, or money laundering to support terrorism; individuals who have been convicted of or pled guilty to a felony where a direct correlation exists between the position and prior criminal behavior (example: individuals convicted of a felony involving fraud, deceit, or theft from holding a position that has substantial management or control over the property of a state agency.)

Requires current licensure as registered professional nurse in state of Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code.
