Sr Mechanical EngineerLocation: Chicago, IL 60638 Duration: Contract to Hire Pay Rate: $90k - $120kSummaryThe Sr. Mechanical Engineer designs mechanical components and assemblies in a cost-effective manner that meets customer specifications and necessary product performance for automated welding equipment and Additive Manufacturing Systems. Other duties may be required.Work EnvironmentResponsibilities associated with this position are typically performed in an office setting or designated administrative area and requires occasional visits to customer facilities, vendor facilities and trade shows/conferences. Movement through industrial or manufacturing areas is required along with the use of appropriate personal protective wear and consistent observance of established safety policies at all times.Primary ResponsibilitiesEvaluate preliminary design at quote stage and determine feasibility of quote based on customer requirements and specificationsAssist Application Engineering with cost estimating in support if the quotation processSize design based on computer programs/hand calculations and compare against previous designsUse 3D modeling software to ensure proper mechanical fit and tolerance, based on customer specificationsReview design with Application Engineering, Welding and Manufacturing Departments.Submit final design to customer for approval. Once approved, prepare drawing for release to ManufacturingContinuously review products and suggest cost reductions for new and existing designsAssist Manufacturing in preparing to build and during entire build process.Provide Manufacturing with troubleshooting / debugging processOnce system is build, update drawings to reflect any changes or modificationsCreate a list of replacement parts for machine manualComplete final file of drawings, diagrams and pictures for Customer and Client archivesPrioritize tasks and track results to meet deadlinesCheck drawings for accuracyWrite specifications for vendor purchasesVerify part number, revision levels and match requirements with Purchase Order versus original quoteGenerate technical proposalsPerform calculations based on customer requirements to ensure meeting specificationsMaintain records – assign part numbers, files, drawing vault.Respond to all customer questions in support of new programs and quotesCheck all received customer prints and maintain in Engineering fileRepresent Engineering during all customer contacts.Assist Applications Specialists with layouts and quotesMinimum RequirementsBachelor's Degree in Mechanical EngineeringExperience in cost reduction activitiesExperience using Creo/Pro-E modeling software5+ years of mechanical design experience, specifically in assemblies for machine toolsExperience with electro-mechanical sensors, servo controls, large weldments and gear boxes preferredToolsMS Office, Creo/Pro-E, Windchill PLMNo Direct ReportsESPO Corporation
