Description: Nurses on this unit care for adult patients who are acutely ill with a variety of medical problems. The patient population includes cardiac, neuro, renal, infectious disease, and pulmonary conditions. As an RN in this unit, you will be accountable for the coordination of direct patient care and education. Patient ratios are 1:5, and nurses must be comfortable with the care of patients in a telemetry setting. Key skills required include managing ports, blood product administration, cardiac telemetry, and the care and management of central lines. Experience with BiPAP/CPAP management, high flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy care is essential. Nurses should be proficient in interpreting dysrhythmias and managing various IV protocols. The unit is supported by an interdisciplinary team including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, and Social Services. The daily census typically averages 29 patients with a capacity of 32 beds. Familiarity with common diagnoses such as hypertension, heart failure, stroke care, and COPD is necessary. Special procedures may include pre/post cardiac catheterizations, pacemakers, and cardioversion care. Candidates must comply with all facility policies, including a zero-tolerance policy for THC. Medical marijuana cards will not be accepted.
