Job Summary: The Medical Assistant II is responsible for maintaining efficient patient flow within the clinic, performs all duties of a Medical Assistant (MA), supports supervisors in training new MA staff, and is responsible for operational and clerical tasks, project work, and assigned programs. This position will demonstrate strong clinical skills and expertise in all relevant systems and processes. The MA II is considered a "float" position and therefore serves as a resource to step in and cover any needs of the clinic. Supervisory Responsibilities:- Provides advice and training to the Medical Assistant staff.
- Ensures staff adhere to and follow all organizational policies, safety standards, and healthcare regulations.
- Performs regular internal audits on departmental processes and procedures.
- Provides consultation on complex projects and is considered a top-level contributor regarding EHR systems or other related department systems, including systems training and processes.
- Oversees inventory, storage, handling, tracking, and reporting of all vaccines daily in clinic and during events.
- Works in a team model to improve the patient's experience, provide clear communication and access to care, and support processes that will improve patient satisfaction.
- Prepares patients for examination, takes vitals, and records patients' health history.
- Sets-up EKG machines, administers injections and medications, and performs routine specimen collection and tests.
- Prepare equipment and examination rooms and cleans instruments.
- Assists provider with medical treatments, procedures, and exams.
- Manages inventory of medical supplies and equips exam rooms with appropriate supplies.
- Receives and directs phone calls, schedules appointments, checks-in patients, obtains necessary patient information to file and updates patient records, and ensures all forms and consents are completed by patients.
- Check out patients, assist with referral processing, and arrange laboratory services.
- Organizes and communicates with insurance companies for authorizations for therapies, testing and specialist referrals.
- Submits appropriate referrals for employees.
- Attends, participates, and/or assists in meetings, trainings, community outreach activities, continuing education opportunities, and other activities as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Strong knowledge of medical practices and front and back-office procedures.
- Strong knowledge of patient care and examination procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact with individuals of various social, cultural, and educational backgrounds.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Detail-oriented and professional.
- Ability to exercise confidentiality, discretion, and good judgment.
- Ability to speak English and Spanish preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certified or Registered Medical Assistant OR completion of a Medical Assistant program that meets the BOMEX training guidelines OR completion of a United States Armed Forces medical services training program OR meet necessary guidelines as described in Arizona Board of Medical Examiners Administrative Code, Title 4, Chapter 16, Article 4, Section R4-16-401.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- 1 year of experience as an MA in a medical setting, or 6 months of experience as an MA at NOAH.
- 1+ years of experience using an EHR system preferred.
- 1+ years of experience coordinating a vaccine program preferred.
- 1+ years of supervisory and/or training experience preferred.
- Periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Prolonged periods of walking, standing, leaning, and bending.
- Able to reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and squat.
- Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) and adequate depth perception, peripheral vision, and color vision.
- Able to hear adequately to decipher spoken word, sounds, alarms, etc.
- Able to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately and clearly.
- Able to use hands and fingers for fine manipulation to touch, pick, pinch, and grasp.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
- Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization's physical premises.
- New Hires are required to pass pre-employment background check and drug testing (effective 11/1/2022).
- Current Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card or must pass fingerprint clearance within 7 days following hire.
