About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Intensive Care Unit Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: ICU experience, CRRT and IABP, Impella preferred Description: Unit is an Intensive Care Unit with 18 beds, expanding to 27 beds. Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:2, with occasional 1:3 for overflow cases. Required certifications include BLS and ACLS. Preferred certifications are PALS and TNCC. Common diagnoses include critically ill patients with complex needs. Invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring is performed. Conditions treated include Sepsis, Acute MI, Renal issues, post-vascular procedures, strokes, TIA, and seizures. Experience with lumbar drains, ARDS, ventilator management, and titration of critical drips is necessary. The age population served includes adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Charge Nurse primarily assists without taking patients. House Supervisor is available 24/7. Nurse aides are not assigned to this unit. A hospitalist is present 24/7; however, an intensivist is not always available. Respiratory therapy is readily accessible as needed but not stationed in the unit. Telemetry services are available, and RNs are responsible for reading strips. Shifts run from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM or from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM. Weekend requirements are every other weekend, either Friday-Saturday or Saturday-Monday. Holidays are rotational with core staff. No call or standby requirements exist for this position. Floating to Stepdown is required; if not needed there, floating to Med-Surg/Telemetry may occur. Floating to Med-Surg is rare and will involve handling a full patient load. Dress code requires solid color scrubs in navy for RNs, with specific guidelines for undergarments and shoes. Orientation includes general hospital orientation, nursing orientation, and shifts with a preceptor. An Initial Skills Checklist will be due within 90 days of start date. This position requires a commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment.
