Manager of Product Design Compliance

Miller Electric Manufacturing , a wholly owned subsidiary of Illinois Tool Works (ITW) , is a global leader in arc welding and cutting equipment with nearly 100 years of innovation behind its brand. Headquartered in Appleton, WI, Miller designs and manufactures equipment used across manufacturing, construction, aviation, agriculture, motorsports, and marine industries worldwide.

We are conducting a search for a Manager of Product Design Compliance to serve as Miller’s technical authority in product safety, certification assurance, and product liability management.

This role carries significant organizational visibility and operates at the intersection of engineering, legal, regulatory bodies, and executive leadership. The successful candidate will protect the integrity of Miller’s products and brand by ensuring rigorous compliance across global markets while leading technical response efforts when incidents occur.

Position Overview

The Manager of Product Design Compliance is responsible for ensuring that ITW Welding products meet all applicable safety, certification, and regulatory requirements. This individual will:

• Lead technical response for field incidents involving potential injury or property damage
• Partner closely with ITW Legal, outside counsel, and expert consultants during investigations, discovery, and litigation
• Oversee global product certification processes (CSA, CE, UL, and related standards)
• Serve as authorized signatory for CE Declarations of Conformity
• Conduct and lead product safety design reviews, hazard analyses, and risk assessments across the product lifecycle
• Review labeling, technical documentation, and marketing materials for compliance alignment
• Participate in and influence key industry standards bodies (e.g., NEMA, AWS, IEC committees)
• Communicate evolving regulatory changes and standards implications to internal stakeholders

This position plays a critical role in proactively mitigating risk while strengthening compliance discipline across engineering, operations, marketing, and customer-facing teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required (Electrical Engineering strongly preferred)
• Minimum 8+ years of experience in product safety, product compliance, regulatory engineering, or related discipline within a manufacturing environment
• Direct experience working with global certification bodies (CSA, CE, UL, etc.)
• Experience supporting product incidents, claims investigations, or litigation matters preferred
• Strong technical documentation skills and ability to operate effectively in high-pressure environments
• Ability to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly to legal teams, executives, and non-technical audiences
