Job Title: Groundskeeper Department: Facilities Reports to: Facilities Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Employment Status: Full-Time Shift Available: Sunday-Thursday from 8:00am-4:30pm Hourly Compensation: $25.86 in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. SUMMARY Responsible for the appearance and safety of the Museum's 40-acre campus including lawn, landscape, and the effective care of all plantings. Both lawn care and snow removal must be done as needed and may require overtime to complete the work, in these cases overtime when approved by the Museum is mandatory.

- Maintenance of the lawn and landscape, including but not limited to:
- taking appropriate care of all lawn areas, including seeding, mowing, string trimming and chemical applications on an established schedule;
- planting (including moving topsoil to create or enrich planting beds), edging, mulching (including moving and placing organic and stone mulch to maintain a consistent appearance), weeding, and fertilizing,
- pruning trees & bushes; raking & hauling leaves;
- maintenance of the Sculpture Garden in accordance with the current landscaping practices done by Groundskeepers to maintain these areas;
- maintenance of all gardens on the 40-acre campus to include hand weeding, hand pruning, and attention to detail;
- reporting any deterioration or unhealthy appearance of planting material to supervisor with a recommendation for a course of action.
- Performs routine maintenance and repairs to the lawn/landscape irrigation systems, including changing heads, adjusting timers, etc.
- Maintains the appearance and safety of the campus by:
- cleaning all outside areas and removing trash;
- performing snow removal - plow parking lots, shovel walks, stairs and terraces, and salt parking lots and walkways;
- remaining available to respond for emergency call-ins outside of normal shift hours to address snow removal or other grounds related emergency issues.
- Responsible for the preparation, care, and maintenance of all grounds keeping equipment and supplies by:
- performing minor engine repairs and maintaining accurate and up-to-date logs on maintenance and repair of all grounds keeping equipment;
- performing minor repairs on pick-up trucks used for grounds (for example, change bulbs)
- performing routine maintenance on snowplow: change hydraulic oil, replace scraping edges on blades;
- cleaning all equipment as necessary and store in a safe manner
- keeping gas cans filled and appropriately stored;
- operating all grounds keeping equipment in a safe and effective manner
- obtaining quotes and writes up purchase requisitions for grounds keeping supplies and materials for equipment maintenance.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
- Works in collaboration with other Groundskeepers, and other Facility team members as appropriate.
- Work tasks will be directed by the Facilities Manager.
- In absence of Facilities Manager, may receive work direction from Director of Facilities.
- Provides instruction and/or work direction to any temporary or seasonal grounds help.
- Works with all departments of the Museum to address grounds-related needs as they develop.
- Associate's degree in turf grass management, landscaping or equivalent in education, training and on the job experience
- Arborist certification preferred
- 2-3 years groundskeeping experience in a similar public/commercial environment
- Current valid driver's license
- EPA Pesticide applicator permit with turf and ornamental endorsements
- Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance, tune-ups and basic repairs on all grounds keeping equipment, including but not limited to lawn tractors, lawn mowers, trimmers, snowplows (including full-sized truck with plow), salt spreaders, forklifts, leaf blowers, chain saws, and air compressors
- Requires self-motivated individual able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to both share knowledge and learn from co-workers
- Must be self-motivated with ability to work alone and with others without direct supervision
- Must know and adhere to safety practices, applying them in both standard and unusual situations
- Must possess good hand-eye coordination and have good eyesight
- Must be able lift/move heavy (80-100 lb.) loads on a regular basis
- Requires full range of physical motion, including but not limited to ability to reach, climb, balance, bend, stoop, walk and crawl
